Hard to believe it has been that long, but I would imagine there are people who post here who don't even know about it. Time.

Found an interesting read on CNN.com that talks about the effects of the non-stop media coverage and how misinformation quickly propogated and became truth. I remember complaining in this very forum (or one with fireworks) about the media coverage at the time and how I thought it was unhealthy.

In any case, I think some of the themes of this piece can be applied to the sports world and especially the world of internet sports information. For instance, a whole lot of people who follow the NFL draft think that all 3 of USCs outstanding LBs tested positive for steroids because of a report on the internet that has proven to be completely false. But people remember the initial information and accept it as fact. Reminds me of Chris Drury's time here too....

The misinformation stories are pretty interesting. I remember hearing most of those stories repeated as fact well after the event had occurred, just goes to show how important it is to maintain a degree of skepticism in regards to most news reports, no matter the source.

I lived in Denver at the time, and was 1 year out of HS in that area. The coverage was all over the radio. I won't go into specifics, but the news being reported as it happened was 90% percent false. Terrible day.

A lot of things initially, just didn't want to get too into it. Here they were reporting there were more than 2 shooters, that they were booby trapping bodies with homemade propane / nail bombs, a few others things. My memory is kinda hazy and, well, that whole situation blew balls and I've kinda blocked a lot of it out.

Very soon after it happened I worked literally across the street from the school at a skate shop. Just had to deal with a lot of kids from there, it screwed a lot of people up.

I remember hearing about the "Trench Coat Mafia" and rolling my eyes. Not being that far out of highschool at that point, I remember the "gamers" in our school had a similar social club. It was obvious the media was just trying to sensationalize whatever they could. Funny how they weren't even in that club... and meanwhile, some innocent kids were probably given a lot of grief after for being in that group.

I also remember how they tried to blame it on rock music at one point.

Columbine. One of those moments where I'll never forget where I was when I heard the news. Kinda weird that ten years later I barely bat an eye when I hear about "another" school shooting.

One thing I distinctly remember is that the body count went down dramatically as the hours drew on.

Interesting to see how much misinformation there was/is on this topic. I kind of find it interesting that the author of the book says that "kids had never been attacked in this way"...which almost implies that this was the first school shooting. But there were a number of them before. Maybe the body counts were less, but this was not the first of its kind.

Misinformation is present on every major event taking place. I am surprised it is ten years ago. Does anyone else use events like this as referent points? I don't use Columbine, but I do with 9/11.

I must have watched atleast 50 documentaries on the Columbine Massacre. The best one that I watched was called Zero Hour. They had interviews from people who were that day, parents and a re-enactment of the whole day.

I'm actually surprised (and happy) that more people did not die that day. If Harris and Klebold's pipebombs in the cafeteria actually went off as planned when there were 500 kids inside, then there would have been a lot more casualties. Thank god they didn't go off! It pisses me off that Harris didn't get charged when he threatened to kill Brooks Brown(one of the students at Columbine who is featured on Zero Hour) on his website a few months earlier. Harris didn't even get a slap on the wrist and the cops didn't even acknowledge the hatred on the website.

Rachel Scott's(the first person to be killed at Columbine) brother has done thousands of tours around schools and has made a lot of speeches that have been very informative. He was in the library at the time and a bullet grazed him. I got to meet him and Brooks Brown a few years back and it was touching to hear everything that he had to say about that day/his sister.

I remember it like it was yesterday. It started a whole new era in school security, just as 9/11 did for terrorism. It was a BIG deal when it happened, and we saw numerous copycat attempts.

I remember it well. We had the first really big computer virus (remember Melissa?) and Columbine all within a month.

I remember a few years ago the journals of the two shooters were released because of the freedom of information act. I'm not trying to glorify these two, but it is kind of interesting to get some perspective on what was going on in their heads leading up to it - however dellusional and disgusting their perceptions were.

Wow, ten years already. Hard to believe. For me, it's also one of those moments where I will always remember where I was when I found out, much like 9/11.

There was a definite change in my school after the shooting. Our school received numerous anonymous bomb and gun threats. Parents weren't letting their kids go to school out of fear, so we ended up just getting a couple days off from school, though nothing ever happened.There were more parent teacher meetings, guidance councellors suddenly starting taking an interest in us. Every little fight/argument, etc was taken so seriously. Everyone was afraid that it would fester into this type of situation.
