Depends on what input you have on the TV.
Likely you'll want a Mini-DVI to HDMI cable, as well as something to port the sound.
The main apple store is a good place to start, but there are other places to get these cables as well http://store.apple.com/ca/browse/hom...es?mco=NTMxNDY
Oooh, if you're looking at doing a bit of a media center setup, check out Boxee: http://www.boxee.tv/
When I finally upgrade to a LCD TV, I'll definitely be setting something like this up.

I don't even know what these outputs are called on my Macbook. I do have two open HDMI slots on the TV though. I don't want anything spectacular, just something that can play videos from my laptop.
So you also need something for sound? I don't even know where to start there either.

If you have HDMI slots there are HDMI/DVI cables available at monoprice.com for cheap... You'll probably need one of those depending on what your outputs on your Macbook are.
I'm not sure how it is for laptops, but for desktops I just run a mini plug to composite cable with left/right RCA plugs (you can get one from radioshack) and plug it in to my receiver. I imagine you can hook the same sort of cable into your headphone jack on your laptop.

Yup, get a Mini-DVI to DVI adapter from Apple, then get a DVI to HDMI cable from Monoprice.
For audio you can either do what Old Yeller says, or depending on the model of Macbook, the miniplug is also an optical out so you could get a mini-toslink to toslink adapter and use an optical toslink cable to connect your Macbook to your receiver.

Ok, I'll get that first thing from Apple. Anyone know if the Apple Stores in person sell these things at the same prices listed on the website?

Monoprice has a mini-DVI to HDMI cable. Any reason why I can't just buy that?

They carry them. You can probably also find them anywhere where they sell Macs. London Drugs, MyMacDealear, Westworld.....

Oh and that's what you need if you want to use a toslink cable for the audio (then can do 5.1). Not sure if you're plugging into a receiver or directly to the TV though.

So if I get that mini-DVI to HDMI cable, and then an HDMI cable, do I still need more for audio, if I'm just hooking directly up to my TV? No 5.1 or anything.
How much of a decrease in video quality am I looking at having when watching things through a TV with this setup?

You'll still need audio. DVI doesn't carry audio.
Video quality depends on the source material. I have a 42" Samsung that I connect my Macbook to with the Mini DVI to RCA cable adapter. I have to get off my butt and get a DVI to HDMI cable, I know.
I have an external 340GB hard drive that holds my iTunes library with all my music, TV and Movies. I usually download TV optimized MP4 files which pretty damn near HD broadcast quality. Definitely a huge improvement over watching SD broadcast on an HDTV. I hold off watching Battlestar Galactica and download a torrent to watch on my TV because it is better than watching it in SD on Space.
Because everything is in iTunes, it plays very nice with Front Row and the remote.

Can you or someone link me to exactly what I need to run audio then, on monoprice? I want to go directly from my Macbook, to my TV if possible.
Sorry for being a pain, I am just inept when it comes to this sort of stuff.

This is what I use. The Minijack goes in the headphones jack on the MB and the red and white to your TV. You can get these cables anywhere including the dollar store. You can never have enough of these.

Are you going to be watching streaming videos? or stuff on your harddrive?
If it's on your hard drive, and you have an Xbox or PS3, you can access your videos wirelessly.

Videos that I have downloaded. TV shows for example. But also I want to try and watch MLB.tv games during baseball season.
I tried to set my 360 up for wireless or whatever, but all I could see is that I needed a PC. Is there a way to do it with a Mac?

Yeah, download a program called connect 360. I use it on my Mac to watch TV shows I've downloaded and it's great. No wires needed, and free.
As for live, streaming stuff, I think you'll need a wire for that.

For downloaded things, Connect360 is the way to go. Don't lose any audio or video quality and it's wireles.
I only use it for video files so I just have the trial version and that works fine. Full version is 20 bucks.

Holy crap this is amazing. Exactly what I needed. But like you say, I will still need the cables for the streaming stuff.
