So mad right now I don't know what to do about it....
So I'm leaving the Brier tonight and picking a cab up outside the new Stampede Casino and it's a snowing good. I'm there with my fiance, who has a medical condition, we get into a cab and they ask " Where you going?" I say Mount Royal, he says get out of my cab I'm not driving that hill. Doesn't say he's not willing to drive the hill and would take us to the bottom, just won't allow us in his cab. So after this myself and my fiance wait 1 hour in the freezine cold for another cab. Next cab shows up an says, " I don't feel comfortable driving that hill but I can drive you to the bottom." Fair enough! We say thank you, we'll get off at the corner of 17th ave. and 14th street and get in. He gets to the hill and sees that it is essentially nothing and drops us off at our house. I tip the guy 20 bucks.
Now I know the cab had no way of knowing of my fiances health, and I can see a cab saying they don't want to hit a particular neighbourhood in a snowstorm (we were more than willing to walk up the hill if need be), but to just tell people "I'm not taking you" and leave them in the freezing cold is just ridiculous. I wrote down the cab's car number and license plate and I think I will be filing a complaint on Monday,

I agree with filing that complaint. The original driver should have offered you an alternative like the second driver did. Telling you to get out was wrong.
Let us know what becomes of the complaint.

Both are horrible...although there is the matter of degree. It's their job, one they are licensed for by the city, to get you to whatever address you choose, no matter how far it is or how much they make on the fare...not to mention I live in Bankview, left the grounds from the Brier Patch after 10:15, and got home no problem.

Would have left earlier than I did, but asked a door man if it was still snowing out (couldn't see from inside) to which they replied, " It's not snowing anymore, just a few flakes". Real educated answer on their part.

I drove home from a poker game in Cochrane and I was doing 30 km/h for a good half hour as you couldn't see more than 5 or 6 car lengths. Normally takes about 1/2 an hour to get home, took over twice that long tonight.

This was the worst I've ever seen it snow here in Calgary. Just the sheer amount coming down was something I had never seen before. I walked into a 7 Eleven, and literally 10 minutes later, my car was covered in snow. When I swept the back windows and then did the sides and front, the back was completely covered again! It was like two snowfalls happening at the exact same time. 2" of snow in 20 minutes!

I heard that hill coming away from the Saddldome was particularly bad last night. The first driver was concerned for his and your safety. Perhaps over-concerned, but hey, if he thinks the hill is undrivable, then he doesn't feel safe. I get the impression that that guy had better intentions than you might think. He should have put a better effort into ensuring you can stay warm until a reasonable alternative was found, though.
On that note, I'm going to play the role of Mr.Obvious here: Couldn't you have stepped inside the casino entranceway to keep warn and wait for another cab? Just wondering.

Partly cloudy and -4 here which is pretty cold for us. By the time this cold front reaches you tomorrow, you'll be -30.

I'm guessing they didn't go into the casino because it's tough to hail a cab from inside the building. Most cabs wouldn't know to stop without somebody waving their hands on the street.
The compromise I guess being that the wife goes in while you sit outside and hail one.

Why does health factor into this story? They obviously had no clue about it.

Just to play devils advocate, if he crashes his cab, thats it. He has no income and no way to support his family. It was really a pragmatic decision on his part.
