Any tried and tested techniques on how to repel PIGEONS?
Alright, here goes.
I live on the 5th floor ofa 6 story condo.
And I have a serious Pigeon problem, well maybe not that serious but they crap on my new BBQ cover and now I discovered there is a nest in a corner of my balcony. I attempted to throw various items at it but the mother is very protective and tried to attack me so I gave up.
I know I just need to wait for her to leave to destroy the nest but the same problem happened last year and will likely continue until I find a way to prevent them from returning.
Has anyone had this issue with any successful solution? I looked online but there are so many different things to try and I want one that I can have some sort of confidence in.
Also, does anyone know of an exterminating operation in Calgary that would handle the nest situation. I have contacted a couple and they wernt interested.
Thanks.

Board up the hole/place where they're living? Thats what we did. They moved on to another house.

Put spikes on top of everything. That's how major buildings in big cities do it like in NY.
Get a simple mat, carpet, or piece of cardboard and pound nails into it and use it as a covering for your BBQ, the corners of the balcony (they like corners, etc.)
Or just get a cat.

I have seen a thin black netting covering the balconey and it's very effective. Hardly noticeable and of course birds can't fly through it.

Dress up in a pigeon costume, build a man-sized nest on your patio, and wait...

Not the most humane way, but put out a bunch of rice. It'll kill most of em after they eat it. Of course, then you have to start a "How do I dispose of dead pigeon carcasses" thread.

Well, guess I ought to get the egg off of my face. Fine. Just start leaving out whatever the hell pigeons eat and mix it with rat poison. Or a BB gun, that could be fun. Stupid interwebs debunking my bad ideas!

The balcony above me is furnished with a derelict couch and other assorted crap. Pidgeons live there. Their mating call is annoying and their feathers float in to my suite. Plus, one of the bastids shat on my truck last week. Which poison is the most effective, please?

1) Let your condo corp know about the problem via written letter to them. Remind them of their obligation to maintain the common property and alert them to the mess that the pigeons are creating on the common property.
This is because you don't want them moving one unit over and coming back for visits from time to time. Unless you have a lazy corp, they should take action.
2) Much like with any bird, they will return to where they successfully nested previously. Be diligent with the nest destruction and that will encourage them to move on, eventually.

When the mother isn't there, detonate stinkbombs in the nest.

Is there an electrical outlet on your deck? I'm wondering if those pest chasers work with birds? I know it works well with mice.
