Question Replacing iPod battery...

It seems like the time has come. Although I mostly use it on my docking station, I'd still like to be able to use it as a portable device. Has anyone ever replaced their iPod battery? I've seen the after market ones, but I've been hesitant. Thoughts? I have a third generation 30 gig video. It's been good to me over the past few years. I would have a real hard time saying good bye to it.

As long as you have a replacement it isn't too hard. Not exactly easy though.

Just google instructions.

Off hand, do the little tools that come with the battery work well? Or are they rather useless and you have to find your own way to pry it open?

Just got some information, so I thought I would update for others who might be interested.

I was at the Apple store during the week and they will change your iPod battery for around $70. However, you have to make an appointment. They do have a deal that if you decide to recycle your iPod, they will give you 10% off the purchase of a new one.

On the other hand, you can purchase an after market battery for $20-ish with the tools et al. to install it yourself.

I guess it is each individual's call. I'm still on the fence.

I pried it open myself. My buddy changed his battery and said it was pretty easy. Mine was broken and I just opened it for shist and giggles.

Thanks for the info. Do they sell aftermarket batteries anywhere in the city or do you have to get them online?

Yup. I worked in the electronics department at London Drugs for a few years until I completed post-secondary and they sell batteries there. It comes with the tools as well. Just remember to know the make and generation of your iPod, as not all of the batteries are the same.
