Incompetent Worker Rant
I hate incompetent health care workers here in High River that can't do thier effing job right. My specialist phoned this morn to tell me that the lab didn't do half the blood work requested and that it would need to be done again. It's the second time these useless clowns have screwed it up! Plus appointments with my specialist have to be rebooked also!
I went to the lab here at the High River hospital and asked why they keep missing half the blood work requested. No one wants to take responsibility for the problem and they just shrug thier shoulders and say you'll have to do the blood work again. I said forget! I'll get my blood work done in Calgary in the future!

High River sounds like it should be a place in BC not Alberta.

Calgary can have the same problems. I hear all about it from people who work at the lab. Tough to get good help.

This is so weird, I was just about to hammer out my own medical rant! Trust me, I doubt you will have an easier time in Calgary.
My issue is this:
I have to have a medication renewed once every few months. Nothing exciting, just an inhaler. However, the doctors only give me 1 or 2 repeats before I need to go see them again. I have a walk in clinic around the corner of my house in Braeside. Tried to go Friday but the closed the doors at 530 (even though the clinic is advertised to be open till 9) saying that they had to many patients to see. Fine. I go back the next day at 300, office is CLOSED. WTF? So I head to one near Russel Sports, get there and a sign out front saying it's not open until 4. Ok, kill a few mins and come back at 345 and the parking lot is PACKED! Try again Monday at the usual place, packed as usual and closing early. Try one today down the street from where I work. 4 or 5 people wating and I'm thinking I'll finnaly get er done. Recpetionist quote 1.5 hour wait for 6 FREAKIN PEOPLE!! I realize that some may have left and plan to come back but man, what takes them so long to see these people. They have to be thourough I know but 1.5 hrs? If it was anything really serious, these people should be in a hospital.
One day I would LOVE to do an interview of people waiting in the walk in clinics to see what they are in for. Willing to bet a good chunk of them don't even need to be there.
I mean, WTH is going on here? How is it in a province as rich as Alberta, we can't keep doctors around and clinics with the right amount of staff? It really annoys me that I have to write off almost an entire evening just to see the doctor for literaly less than a minute so he can write down my prescription on a peice of paper?
The worst part about it is, how do you complain about the medical field? These people often have attitudes that would just not cut it in any other industry, it's not really like you can talk with your wallet and take your business elsewhere.. I realize they have tough jobs but no one put a gun to their head and told them to become doctors.
/end rant

That's what happens when healthcare is "free"
They should charge a nominal fee for every walk-in and appointment

Yeah, there you go complaining about the medical field.
Then what happens?
You wake up naked in a ditch somewhere while someone's watch is ticking away inside of your chest cavity.
And your missing a kidney.
And whats the first thing you do man? Call a doctor.

Was it just that they didn't do enough of the testing or they screwed up the actual results?

It's the same with local ERs. So many people don't need to be there, they just clog it all up because their kid has a cough, or they have an upset tummy because they just ate a whole tub of icecream. Then they have the gall to complain about wait times.

They missed half the blood work listed on the sheet. Specialist confirmed by calling the lab after only getting half the results he requested. He's dumb founded as to why they keep screwing up.
I can understand mistakes being made but at the same time they're messing around with peoples health and lives. I have a brain tumor that's pressing against my optic nerves and these tests are vital as it will determine the next course of action. I can't afford to be waiting around until these clowns get it right.

People really need to get it through their heads to call healthlink first.
Before sitting in a crappy waiting room catching who knows what from the sick people around you, give them a call to see if it is worth your time, or if you should just stretch out and vegetate in front of the TV.

I can only imagine how frustrating this must be Dion. It's certainly not a situation where you want to be dealing with dummies.
Best wishes to you!

My wife worked at a hospital once upon a time. Someone actually called their emergency line to find out how to remove a seed which was caught between her teeth. The nurse laughed and asked if she had floss. The nurse was reprimanded later for making the person feel stupid. That's gotta suck when you get in trouble for telling the truth.
I agree that the biggest problem in Drs offices and ERs is hypochondriacs wasting everyone's time.

OMG man, I'm so sorry to hear that. I feel so petty with my anger now, your situation is far worse. I hope you get the treatment you need ASAP. This is a classic example of the state of affairs of our medical industry. I mean honestly, WHO do you make your complaints to? How does this get fixed? Things really are unacceptable.

Agreed, I'd happily pay $10 if it meant I could get in and out. But then you get the complaints about making healthcare becoming more inaccesible to some people. Maybe it could be based on your income and that is referenced in your healthcare number? I dunno. I know they are trying to make things even across the board but something must be done. Perhaps charging people who showed up for rediculous reasons?

Apparently there will soon be nurse run clinics(not sure of all the particulars) and it makes sense. I'll bet 90% of the people going to clinics don't need a doctor. A qualified nurse would be more than adequate to hand out stuff for colds, flu's, to flush ears, to diagnose that they need to see a specialist. Or to just pack them off to the emergency room.
They need a another whole layer of service where doctor's aren't being tied up to do stuff that a nurse ete. could do.

Maybe if Doctors would improve their penmanship, there would be less of these problems.
