Default Help with VISTA

My VISTA is not working properly. When I try to do certain updates and the notifier pops up asking do you want to authorize this, when I push yes the screen goes blank and I cannot do anything. If I ctrl-alt-del I can get to the task manger thing and select log out. Once I do this I can log back in again.

Also when my computer hibernates, when I turn it back on I cannot do anything. The screen comes up but it is froozen. Again if I do the task manager think I can log off and then log back on again.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I had a bug with hibernating ob my laptop with Vista, I am pretty sure it was SP1 that fixed it but I might be mistaken, but something along the way fixed it.

Which updates cause problems?

The simplest thing to do is get all the updates you can (if some work and some don't, try each of them one at a time until you get as many as possible). There are always bugs in every release of an operating system, which updates will usually fix at some point.

If this doesn't help, it could be a different problem. Maybe you have a different program running that is causing the application to hang?

I'm also having problems with Vista. Once in a while, when the computer is hibernating and then I move the mouse around to get it going again, the screen doesn't respond. Then I have to shut down, and restart.

Also, there were 2 times yesterday when it wouldn't shut down. It would make it to the shut down screen, then just sit there...

Have you tried disabling the UAC? At least until you can get the update installed. Here's a pretty good walkthrough that will explain things better than I can: http://www.petri.co.il/disable_uac_in_windows_vista.htm

I had that problem at first, but as I seem to recall, it had something to do with my video card drivers. You may want to try updating your drivers, either through nVidia or Radeon or whoever makes your video card.

That one is the biggest pain in the ass ever. My HP updater completely stops when its time to update my DVD drive.

I've disabled the HP driver and manually update my hardware drivers now.

Yep -I had the same problems as described above, and updating the video card driver was the fix as well.

I've turned my HP updater off for the same reason. It'd stop my computer cold.
