Default One week in Europe

Alright CP, here's the challenge. In April I'm going to find myself in Paris, France for about 4 or 5 days. I'm going to have an additional week in Europe before I need to be back in Calgary afterward.

If you were in my situation what place in Europe would you go for one week? I'm looking for a destination where you can easily fly/train from Paris area. I'm pretty well traveled so any destination is fair game as far as I'm concerned.

One idea that I'm tossing around is flying to Stockholm and spending some time in and around the Stockholm archipelago.

I'm curious to see what places people love in Europe.

I spent some time this fall in Berlin, Prague & Munich....great trip, but my favorite city of the 3 was probably Berlin.

Well, it takes about a week to properly do Rome. You should also be able to squeeze in a day trip to Pompeii.

Versailles
Chartres
Loire Valley
Mont St Michael
Normandy beaches/cemeteries
Dieppe
Giverny
Back to Paris.

Neat circle, all relatively close to Paris.

Amsterdam is about a 5 hour train ride away.

Barcelona was a good suggestion, probably my favourite city in Europe. Prague or Budapest should both be reasonably easy/cheap to get too and lots of fun. You can get from Prague to Berlin for 50 Euro's on the train and can see both cities pretty well in a week I did that last september with a friend.

Since you're only going to have a week after your stay in Paris, I wouldn't try to pack too many places into a short amount of time. Just pick a few places that are all relatively close, and spend more time there instead of wasting too much time on transit.

I lived in France for a while, and I would definitely recommend trying to see a few other places other than Paris. You could spend that whole extra week just going to other cities and towns in France. Or if you want to try to squeeze a few countries in, one of my favourite little trips to do was to go to Brussels for a night or two, and then continue on and go to Amsterdam. Not too much traveling time required on the train, and I am sure it would be even faster if you flew. Or like someone else suggested, Barcelona is very nice too!

This would be the first place I went before anywhere else.

I'm a huge supporter of Prague...beautiful city but I found it wasn't all that cheap. Absolutely loved it there. Budapest was nice and fairly cheap but was a little dirty (at least the part of the city I was in).

If you wanna go somewhere really cool and not too expensive, I'd recommend Slovakia, Croatia or Slovenia. Little countries, lots of cool stuff to see and do.

For 1 week in France, I'd just stay in France. Paris has lots to see, no point on waisting it flying around.

From my recent Eurotrip my favorites were:

Berlin
Amsterdam
Rome

Anyone of them would be an awesome choice, and each takes a week to do fully, except Amsterdam, I just got stoned for 5 straight days...

Depends on what you like, because I couldn't suggest just one over the other because they are all so incredible.
