Default Since we're all trying to get healthier (supplements thread)

I thought this would be an interesting add on to other threads here. Since we seem to have a lot of fitness buffs here, what are you doing for your fitness programs, maybe we can all support each other.

Guess I'll start.

In terms of work outs.

3 days on one day off(free weights day 1, chest and legs day 2, upper/lower back, shoulders, day three biceps triceps legs) I try to do 30 minutes of eliptical each morning before going to work, I work out in 6 week segments, for first 6 weeks heavy weights low reps, next 6 weeks lighten the weights and up the reps.

Supplements (green tea, multi-vitamins, fish oils, protein shake after workouts.)

My goal, muscle maintenance, fat loss.

Any thoughts)

I go 2 on 1 off. Try to focus on one muscle group each day. Rinse and repeat weekly. I just take a multi-vitamin and now drink delicious chocolate milk.

Funny, I was just considering to post a thread that asks for some assistance with a work out program (please inform me if your would rather I started separate thread).

I want to focus on toning, fat loss and gaining strength. Not really interested in bulk.

I typically do compound workouts that work a variety of muscles within one workout but I'm not entirely sure if that is what I should be doing.

Any advice?

I need to do more for my upper body.

I presently ride my bike to work and play hockey once or twice a week. The rides are great as it's a 50km round trip. Legs are strong as hell.

Need some balance, though, as my strong legs and weak core lead to fun back issues.

Come on Habby it's just so easy. I turns on my Wii Fit and runs around the island. Then do the dance steps followed by some Yoga. Finish it off with a little snowboarding and Super Hula Hoop and I've toned all of the JohnnyFlame bod.

I do a split routine focused mainly on the 3 most important compound exercises. Bench Press, Squats, Deadlifts.

For maintenance, toning, gaining muscle, IMO those are the MOST important lifts you can do.

Also, I try to do HIIT 3-4 times per week. Also very important.

And I drink chocolate milk.

I just do what my personal trainer rights down. Monday, Tuesday, rest Wednesday, Thursday, Friday. I do 30 minutes of cardio after my weights. The program involves working each muscle once per week (except this current program has biceps on Tuesday and Friday for some reason). I get a new program every four to six weeks (depends how far I want to stretch my money).

For supplements I use SuperPump 250 when I get out of bed followed by Whey Isolate. Then I have SizeOn after my workout.

For those that do weights 3-4 times a week and take protein, do you have protein shakes on you days off too?
I usually only have protein after a workout, but am debating taking it daily. thoughts?

It depends, I was drinking a protien shake as part of my afternoon meal along with an apple and almonds. I think I want to start taking protien right after I lift (I workout at 5:30am), if by chance I do work out on an afternoon or evening I will take protien before and after. Currently I am taking protien when I get out of bed. Then after my workout I eat a huge breakfast with protien coming from eggs, egg whites, and skim milk.

I do a shake a day, even on my off days.

It really depends on your goals.

For myself I drink a protein shake before, during and after a workout and then one right before I go to bed.

Q-F-T!! (why does it get blocked without the hyphens?)

This is the best work out you could even imagine...even if you have been working out for a million years at the gym this will kick your @$$!!!

If you can't afford something like this look at going to the gym and completing COMPOUND exercises. Don't bother with bicep curls or tricep dips or other foolish workouts like that.

Yeah, there's a reason the Marine Corps and Navy Seals have adopted CrossFit as their official workout regiments.

I think it's the other way around. I have a Navy Seal workout booklet from 1996 (?) and they explain a pretty similar program as to what Crossfit is now. The real life scenarios are where it's at....

Yep.

IIRC, one of the guys that came up with Crossfit was a SEAL.

Well it was Greg Glassman that is the apparent creator. It may have history before him, I just know he is the one who has really developed it. I don't know what his background is, whether military or not.

I did Crossfit for a month but they moved it to another gym which is a bit too far....plus it's $$$$. It's the best= you feel like you are going to die. BTW has anyone heard of DNA customized vitamins? Then there's this stuff that you put on the roof of your mouth like those breath freshening strips...it supposedly has HGH and some kind of amino acid .I believe it begins with a Z. Anyone ever try it?
