I had it running on hardwood, and it does work well. Its not overly loud at all.

MYK loves my Roomba - best invention for a single male since single women.

It is made for some to turn on when they go to work and when they come back its done. It does a fantastic job when it doesnt have to deal with furniture and a good job when furniture is present. Its loud enough I wouldnt want to study when it is running. If you have wires or cables about, make sure they are off the ground.

Not sure if your model comes with the recharge base but if it does, its a great deal. I have owned 2 in my life, one without and one with.

Also, as with anything it will last as long as the type of maintenance you preform. Clean the brushes and empty the tray/sift tray all the time.

Nothing else really helpfull to add.

Will it clean multiple rooms all by itself? If the carpet continues on from room to room, will it just progress its way through?

it should, providing there is no barrier in the way. it comes with 2 proximity sensors that you can position to keep it away from stuff, but it should go as long as the battery goes.
