Default Used Books - Suggestions as to how to get rid of?

I've been cleaning out the garage and have a fairly big chunk of books that I'd like to get rid of.

Any suggestions on how to do so? I guess my goal is to just get rid of them and hopefully get them to someone who might appreciate them, and recouping some $$ would be a bonus.

I though that selling them all via Amazon.ca might actually get some decent $$ but that seems like a LOT of work.

There's quite a few used book stores in town that seem to buy used books. Anyone suggest one they've gone to before and had a good experience with?

Also, is there a religious used book store in town? I've got a sizable chunk of religious books as well and I'm not sure if normal used book stores will take those.

TIA

I went down to Kensington. I went to a few places since there are (or were) a few in the area, then there was a bin for donated books at the Safeway.

There are always a few used books sales for charity, but I've never noticed when they do their collections.

Take 'em to the Wee Book Inn in Kensington or 17th Ave. If you have books they need, they'll pay you cash right there.

Yeah saw the Wee Book Inn online, I might give them a try.

Also just dawned on me that I could donate them to the library in Chestermere.

There are several on 17th, but they are usually pretty picky. They know what sells, and what sells isn't always what people want to get rid of.

If you have textbooks, for example, they are yours for life.

What do you have besides the religious stuff?

I'm not sure a library would want that many "adult" books.

the CPO has a "Benny the Bookworm" booksale every year. That involves donation though, not selling. If you wish to donate, you could check with the CPO as to when that fund raising event is.

Fair's Fair, on Macleod right near Snatch, or 17th Ave and 14th Street SW.

Exchange for credit for more books is a better deal than cash of course.

Also, my girlfriend loves books, what kind are they?

What kind of books?
Post them on the buy/sell forum. I would probably be interested in a few.

The library may or may not take the books - depends on their mandate. I'd call them before dropping them off.

Just donate them. Whether it be schools, libraries or the salvation army, there will be takers. The money isn't worth the trouble and it'll feel good to be charitable.

There's all kinds, some fiction (fantasy and scifi), some self help, quite a mix.

I'd put em up and sell em here but that requires going through them all and writing down all the titles and stuff, whereas taking them to a place is easier.

I checked with the Library in Chestermere and they'll take them all, they said if they don't use them they'll put them into their yearly book sale which the $$ goes back to the Library.

I also found a Christian used book store that I'll use for the religious ones, the used book stores I called weren't interested in them for the most part unless it was more new age type stuff.

I'll try and slip in a copy of The God Delusion and see what they do (JUST KIDDING!)

And no I'm not getting rid of any of the adult books, they tend to get worn out too fast anyway.

I just donated 4 boxes of books to Value Village. The money they make goes to charity.

I have sold books at the Wee Book Inn on 17th. They gave 10% of the price printed on the book and would only take books originally published within the last five years.

That worked well for what I wanted, since I picked up a box full of nearly new books for next to nothing. My wife & I kept the ones we wanted and was able to sell the leftovers for more than I paid for the whole box.

Donate it to the library. I am sure they can find some use for it. If they can't then they might sell it to help them buy some more equipment/books.

I was going to suggest your local library or the nearest library system. You mentioned Chestermere, which is one of 35 member libraries of the Marigold Library System. If Chestermere doesn't want them then they would either sell them or donate them to another library in the system. Unless they've told you otherwise, they may even be interested in the religious books as well. Just because they aren't a Christian organization doesn't mean that they ignore the topic of religion all together.
