Wireless Network / XBOX360
Please don't shoot me. I've searched, and only found a bunch of people selling these things.
Long story short, XBOX360 is in the living room... Ethernet cable is not. 37' LCD is in the living room. Got a smokin deal on a XBOX360 Wireless Adaptor. I have a D-Link DI-524 running a wireless signal.
I tried all last night to get this thing to connect to my XBOX. When I chose the "connection" I have created, it will say connected, but when I try to log into XBOX Live, it says there's no wireless connection. It can tell me that there's 3 green bars of strength with my connection, but nothing past that.
I tried running a 1 red bar unsecured connection, and the test said that I was connected, but I don't think there was enough juice to jump on XBox Live.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. I've tried the different formats of securing the connection. I've tried different passwords. I'm stuck.
Any ideas?

Just upgraded to 5.10, I'll try this one when I get home. Any other ideas? It's getting on my nerves that this thing will connect, but wont let me do anything.

Have you done the "test your xbox live connection" in network settings? I had problems getting my wired xbox to talk to xbox live. Wound up having to roll back my firmware to a previous version for it to work. I have the same router as you and rolling back the firmware did the trick.

That's actually where I get frustrated. In the list of wireless signals (SSIN), it says I'm connected to the one that I want, but when I go to "test your xbox live connection" in network settings, whatever the second test on the list is, it says "not connected".
Do you mind if I ask what firmware you had to roll back to in order to get it to work?

Yep,that's the same area I ran into a problem. You are being assigned an IP address though?
In all honesty, I recently replaced that router as it died in a recent brownout. I pretty much downloaded all of them and kept trying until I found one that worked. It certainly was not the most recent one (unless a new version addressing this issue has been released in the past couple of months) but not an early version either, think it was 2-3 yrs old. Sorry I can't tell you which one specifically to use but just grab a bunch and keep trying until you find one that works. If you are looking for an excuse to buy a new router, the one I replaced it with (also a d-link) worked right out of the box. Can't recall which one I bought exactly but if you like, I will find out at home tonight and post.
BTW-You aren't doing any MAC filtering, are you? Just encrpytion?

MAC Filtering is off on my settings. And not too sure on the IP settings.

It's nice when it suddenly starts working, eh? LOVE it when the whole home network is chugging along nicely.

For now, this is the only thing that's wireless... I'm still not sold on spending more money on wireless. This thing, hopefully will do the trick for now. I don't know how long we're going to be in the house that we're in, so to start getting a "network" changed than what it is isn't quite what I'm looking for.
But still awesome none the less... especially since my brother told me he just got GH3, so now we can jam out together. And I can do it in HD, and not on my TV downstairs.

Well in all fairness, people were having the same problem you were even with a wired connection.
Wireless is great if you can't run the cable but ideally, I prefer gamin systems to have a hard connection but failing that, wireless should treat you just fine.

Thought I'd bump this to seek some aid with a problem I'm having. I've got a Linksys WRT54G wireless router, don't recall any major issues signing in and playing on XBL but all of the sudden I can't join games with friends for the life of me. Trying to play GTA4 and COD4.
When I go "test network settings" it tells me that NAT is medium and this may be the cause of the issue. It refers me to a list of supported devices on the X-Box page but I don't really want to spend money on a new router unless I must. Any suggestions?

And it has been working fine up until this point? If it has and only recently stopped working, something must have changed. Didn't mess with any of your router settings? We lost power to the house a few days back, did this happen at yours?

Ah, thanks for the reply, it was me being a bonehead, opened some ports and voila, there you go. NAT now reads 'open'.

Did you do the connection test to determine at which stage it is failing? I remember running into a similar problem when I first got my wireless adapter. It would go all the way to getting an IP address from the router but still fail at connecting with Live. It turned out that I needed to change the MTU (maximum transmission unit) size setting on the wireless router to a number 1365 or greater.

A little late on the reply and a bit off topic but for any of you who have wireless at home and have a laptop, but morally opposed to buying a wireless adapter (360's should come wireless enabled, like Wii's), you can connect your wirelessly connected laptop to your 360 and use that.
Maybe old news to you folks but a tip for newbies...

The PS3 has a integrated wireless adapter as well. I hated paying $100 for a little piece of hardware which costs $2-3 to make, just to play wirelessly.
