This is one of the wierdest things I have ever read. A mother who was 8 months pregnant is murdered and her fetus has been kidnapped.

I love how in the reporting, at least at first, they had trouble knowing what to call it.

Many are calling it an "8 month old" but obviously it is actually a "negative one month old". And really the question is could it be alive? Because if it is dead then it is nothing but a disgusting thing that had the potential to be something... yuck.... but it never was that thing.... ? And if you were listening to the reports and kept on the lookout for an "8 month old" you are not going to have much luck....

Well, it's not a fetus. It was, but it isn't now.

If it is alive, it's a baby. If it's not, it was most certainly murdered.

The creepiest part of the story to me is that it's very likely that this girl and her husband were watched for an extended period of time before this scumbag made his/her move.

this is the same small town (pop 340) where the town bully was shot on main street in broad daylight in 1981. 55 people watched, no indictments followed, no trial was held, no one came forward to reveal the killers.

I wonder if that was the basis for the Swayze classic "Roadhouse". I know it took place in a small NW Missouri town.

Some of the movies they make are "loosely" based on actual events. So, it wouldn't be a big stretch for the "Roadhouse" to be based on that event.

i think there were a couple movies based on it, not sure if roadhouse was one of them. i seem to remember a made-for-tv movie on one of the networks that told the actual story. i grew up just across the border to the north, in iowa.

speaking of Bully's and movies loosely based on events I highly recommend the movie Bully by Larry Clark or the book it was based on of the same name written by Jim Schutze. Great performances from the whole cast especially Nick Stahl as Bobby Kent aka the bully. The book is even better. It is a very disturbing look at what can go wrong in middle class america where kids have too much free time on their hands and parents aren't doing their jobs properly.

Your post got me interested and I read all about Ken McElroy yesterday and the incidents that led to his demise.

Interestingly, one of the slain woman's relatives quoted in today's story on CNN is the very same person who was shot by McElroy with a shotgun in the late 70's. Not that remarkable, I guess, when you think about the size of the town.....but still...it's kind of interesting.

That would be Romaine Henry.

Why?! Why would someone steal a fetus?

But then again, that's exactly like asking, Why do people murder people?

This isn't the first time something so gruesome has happened. A few years ago in Ohio, a woman killed a pregnant woman, a neighbor of her's, if I remember correctly, cut her open, stole her unborn child, and then paraded around with the baby as if it were her own.

Which is exactly what happened this time. The baby is doing well, she survived, apparently healthy enough that, again, the murderer was able to show the child off as her own.

Disgusting, truly. What the hell is wrong with people?
