Default Multi-day backpacking trips in Waterton/Rockies

Hey gang. My lady and I are looking for some suggestions on 2-3 night backpacking trips in the Canadian Rockies or Waterton.

We'll call ourselves medium-skilled, in good shape and not scared of altitude. Looking for good views, good campsites and good trails.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

edit: looking for a trip with some fishing along the way.

In Waterton we did a summit and camped at Twin Lakes one night, and I can't remember where we camped the 2nd night, but it was amazing scenery and a nice rewarding hike. There are a tonne of trail maps and you can call the info booth and they'll help you plan out a multi-day hike.

Another hike I really want to do is hiking around Mount Assiniboine by entering around Sunshine village....

Just a couple you may be interested in investigating.

Some of the multi-days around Assiniboine are tough, tough. Totally worth it, and probably fine for intermediates (I would call myself an intermediate, and it was fine for my Dad and I. My sister didn't fare as well however.).

If you wanna go on a real journey (driving-wise), and you can get a permit (not sure how far in advance you need to book), the Berg Lake Trail in Mount Robson Provincial Park is my favorite backpacking trip of all-time. A must-see, for sure.

Lake O'Hara is beautiful also, even though it's busy, the campsites are noisy, and you have to take a bus to get up there. But it's a spectacular area.

The Skyline trail near Jasper is another necessary Rockies hike. Top 5 for sure.

I also really like Yoho National Park. Lots of amazing dayhikes, but you can turn them into a nice little loop if you please. Make sure you include the Iceline trail- one of the best dayhikes in AB/BC imo.

So many options!

Skyline trail looks awesome. The no campfires thing is a bit of a turnoff though.

Another wish is somewhere we could fish along the way.

I am doing some research for you on this one. Stay tuned.

edit -Ribbon Lake in Kananaskis has some good fishing. You can turn that one into a backpack trip if you continue on to Guinn's Pass and Buller Pass.

Ro, you're the man! Thanks a ton.

Do you know of any good forums on the net for hiking in these areas?

Naw, I'm more of a guidebook kind of guy. Mostly so I can photocopy what I need and take it with me on the trip. That or ask my old man. When I talk to him next I'll ask him about some other backpacks that have decent fishing.

In my experience, there are a ton of sites advertising guided backpacking trips that you have to pay big bucks for, and not many that give you good solid info. But there has to be a decent one out there somewhere.

As far as books go, this one is the best on the market:

Cool. Ya, we're not looking for a guided trip. We just want to throw our stuff on our backs and hit the trails...

We're thinking about 50km is a good distance, give or take 10.
