Default Woman dies after life spent in iron lung

http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/28/iro....ap/index.html

A power failure did her in and the backup generator for some reason failed.
Sounds like she was on her way out anyhow but it is remarkable she still made the most she could out of her life. I am claustrophobic so I would have went mental!

I had thought that nobody used iron lungs any more, but then read further on in the article:

Quote:
Iron lungs were largely replaced by positive-pressure airway ventilators in the late 1950s that give users much more freedom of movement. But a spinal deformity from the polio kept Odell from wearing a more modern portable breathing device.
