Default Gran Turismo 5 for PS3... Any thoughts so far?

Hey fellow PS3 dudes (and dudettes)... Anyone picked up GT5 yet?

I know it's just a "preview release" but it's still the best racing series ever created (my opinion!).

So... how is it? I'm on the way out to pick it up in a bit, actually, but figured I'd get my geek on first and see if anyone else has it.

ps... Maybe we can get a few races going!

I really like it so far. It is visually stunning and there are no more licenses to earn.

Keep in mind that when you do get it you will need 20 minutes to half hour to install and update the game.

Online is really fun. But there are many jacktards that turn it into a demolition derby sometimes, then again something like that happens in every online game.

I can't wait until the complete GT5 comes out!

I'm waiting for the full version... $40 for a glorified demo is a bit steep.

I love the Gran Turismo series... It is why I bought a PS2. Really, it is the only game on the horizon that I was looking forward to when I bought my PS3 too.

Should I buy this game, or just wait for the real GT5? Is it enough of a complete game?

I dont have a lot of time to game anymore, so it comes at a sacrifice. I am thinking maybe I should just wait to make that sacrifice until GT5, rather than use up all that time on GT Prologue.

My advice is that you pick it up. The game is for only a certain type of person, and I think you fit the bill. You have a couple things going for you:

1. you seem to be a big fan that would appreciate it . . . I don't think casual racing fans would be as into it as a true GT fan.

2. You don't have a whole lot of time. One of the biggest gripes people have is that it doesn't have as much content to keep people going. I'm kind of like you, I don't have a huge amount of time, so the games that people complain about regarding length actually take me a real long time to finish.

I think it's important to know the games limitations before jumping in. 6 tracks, 70 cars and a pretty rusty online system. I've had no bad experiences online but I've heard some rough stories. Not a huge amount of content for 40$, but if you're a fan and don't feel like waiting for another year, my recommendation is to pick it up. If you're strapped for cash or don't consider yourself a big GT fan, I'd say pass.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit thus far.

Thanks for the input, Russic. I'll probably grab it next time I see some gaming opportunity.

Does anyone know if Force Feedback wheels are supported? A racing game must use force feedback IMO.

Apparently any wheel compatible with the ps3 will work.

Not sure if it's still around but Bestbuy had a promo where you got GT5 and a controller for $50. Wish i knew that before i opened mine up from EB.

Doh! Yeah that would have been nice to know

So far, I'm having a blast! I wonder if they'll add the licenses back in when the full game launches, though.

I was playing this on a buddie's machine. What will be the difference between this and the real game? Just more content or graphic improvements etc.?

Pretty much. 70 cars and 6 tracks in prologue . . . GT4 had over 700 cars and 51 tracks (just to give you an idea). Not sure what GT5 is planning, but it will be similar. There are also plans to have an area where you can view car related shows (like bbc's top gear).

I would also imagine the online setup will be much cleaner and more effective.

Some downloadable tracks for free would be nice sometime down the line. Six tracks doesn't seem like enought to hold my interest for an extended period of time to make the purchase worthwhile. Good thing Best Buy had a good deal and I have a Dualshock 3 to show for it in the end anyways.
