Default One More Luddite Question - Wireless Printing.

Need a bit more help from you tech savvy youngsters.
I have a wireless network (desktop hub and 2 laptops), with a printer plugged into the desktop. How do I print from the laptops?

Make sure the desktop is on and has file/printer sharing enabled. The printer should show up automatiically on the network. I can give more detailed instructions if you let me know your OS.

Ooops - left that out desktop is XP. Laptops are Vista and 7, but I assume that's irrelevant.

Here's a decent guide to sharing the printer on XP:

http://www.home-network-help.com/share-printer.html

1) Go to Start and click Control Panel. Control Panel Window will appear, then double click Printers and faxes.
2) Printers and Faxes window will appear. Right click the printer you want to share, then click Sharing…

Note: Make sure you've enabled File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on network card's properties.

3) Select Sharing tab and tick Share this printer to share the printer. You can type in a new name in the Share name text box to change your printer name on the network, however this will not change the printer name on your computer. Click Apply.

To use the printer on the laptops follow these instructions:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/w...move-a-printer
  1. Open Printers by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Printers.
  2. Click Add a printer.
  3. In the Add Printer Wizard, select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer.
  4. In the list of available printers, select the one you want to use, and then click Next. If your computer is connected to a network, only printers listed in Active Directory for your domain are displayed in the list.
  5. If prompted, install the printer driver on your computer. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  6. Complete the additional steps in the wizard, and then click Finish.
