Alomar To The Ring...
Of Excellence...
http://tsn.ca/mlb/news_story/?ID=233533&hubname=
Questionable, but glad to know that in a sport that hold people back for their actions, that a team can over look stupidity in one's career, and honor them for acheivements while playing for the team.
There's no question that he was a main cog on the World Series winning teams. My only concern was the spitting incident, which was basically played media wide, and was a black eye on the sport. I guess now with steroids, spitting isn't the biggest deal in baseball.
Worthy for the Blue Jays to honor him? I'd say so.

Yeah, that home run in the 92 ALCS off Eckersly basically was a defining moment for the Blue Jays. No longer were they chokers who could get to the LCS, but they were a team that could win the LCS and more. As a Blue Jay Alomar was really a tremendous talent who did everything exceptionally well. The spitting incident was unfortunate...but when you remember the good things he did on the field as a player for the Blue Jays he's more than worthy of the honor.

I was a huge Alomar fan growing up. Big reason why I prefered playing the field over swinging at the plate while I was playing baseball. Wanted to emulate that amazing defence.
Kudos to him.

Listening to him talk with the Tabler and Campbell, he certainly still has the same attitude ego that barely fits in the Skydome and that spit on that umpire. When asked about the HoF, instead of giving the standard "lets see, but it would be an honor", instead, the answer was "I fully expect so".
Tabler was also saying that when he asked Joe Carter when Alomar came in, Carter said that Ryne Sandberg (at that time, an all star in his prime) couldn't hold a candle to Alomar. From all stories that I've heard Carter's mouth and ego was pretty big before like that, and hitting that home run in the WS has had him thinking he's bigger than life, putting his nose up at a lot of requests.
Good ball players, both of them, but it displays how good a manager Cito Gaston was in managing personalities in that clubhouse, having to deal with those two, the engimatic Dave Winfield, other purported dinks in Kelly Gruber and Ed Sprauge and the always touchy Dave Steib. And the next year, king dink of them all, Rickey Henderson.

My two favorite Alomar memories are in game 6 of the '92 World Series against the Braves when he scored from 3rd and did the Braves' Tomhawk chop while he trotted to home plate.
The other was in game 1 of the '93 World Series against the Phillies when he went into shallow right field, basically all the way to the foul line to catch a little blooper.
'93 Alomar was in the top 3 in the league in batting average (Olerud, Alomar and Molitor)
Alomar was awesome with the Jays and one of the greatest second basemen ever. He deserves the honor.

he also apologized privately to the ump and remains friends to this day. Next to Olerud, he was my favourite Jay. No one better to play 2nd base, IMO, in the last 20 years.

I remember that I went to a blue jays game a long time ago with my dad. the Jays were up by some ridiculous score so we decided to leave and go have a beer at the pub.
We're sitting at the pub when we over hear that Alomar was pulled out of the game due to a death threat, and the blue jays gave up the lead and ended up losing in a thrilling finish.
I learned the lesson about not leaving the game early that day.
