Default Jokinen is on the move

In a trade that would likely resemble what would happen in the real NHL, Jokinen has been traded to the Red Wings. The trade breaks down like this:

To Detroit
Olli Jokinen
Mike Peca
3rd Rnd pick in 09'
Cash

To Montreal
Alex Tanguay
David Booth
Jeff Schultz
5th Rnd pick in 09'

We were excited to have Jokinen on our team and had high hopes for AO and him lighting it up. Unfortunately, the chemistry wasn't there and they have been playing on separate lines. He's a great player and we wish him all the best in Detroit.

Peca should get a decent re-rate next year and will help out with the Red Wings up front.

Alex Tanguay is a personal favourite of mine and hopefully he'll have a bit more SIM chemistry with AO. He has great PA and I think will do well. We also get his versatility in playing both Centre and the wing.

We were also to get two solid young guys in Booth and Schultz. Booth already has 18 goals this year as a 2nd year player in the league and Schultz is playing 18 minutes a game in a shutdown role in Washington. We hope he can anchor our D-line for years to come.

Thanks Trevor for the talks, they were straight-forward and easy.

Not sure why I'm making a move right now really. The team has been on a tear lately. Tanguay has been strong since we acquired him just 4 games ago. But I couldn't pass up a player of Jokinen's talents. He will make the switch from right wing to his natural position at center.

Mike Peca brings something to the team this season that is dearly lacking from the roster. A guy with a defensive ratting that can kill penalties. His experience and leadership will be welcome in the dressing room as we look to maintain a spot in the post season.

Booth was a hard guy for me to part with. He is playing 20+ minutes in Florida this season. Kills penalties and gets some time on the power play. Making only 1 mill a season the guy will be a bargain next year for MTL.

Schultz, don't really know too much about the guy aside from the fact that he is young and playing full time for the Caps. At 6'6" and 220 lbs he Looks to have a bright future.

Montreal won this trade. Peca is on the downside of things. He's got a year or 2 left max. The only rerate he's gonna get is down. The Habs got three guys playing full time in the NHL, under the age of 30 for Jokenin basically. Great deal on there part

Peca is actually having a decent year, especially since Federov has been injured. I wouldn't be surprised to see his ratings stay the same.

I actually like it for Detroit. I'll call the Booth-Peca swap even, I could see that happening at this time of the year. Booth is young, great contract, and will score 20 goals in the NHL. Meanwhile Peca has better ratings right now...

So basically, Detroit gets Jokinen for Tanguay and Schultz. Personally, I like Jokinen a lot more than Tanguay so that makes it seem like a good deal for them.

I think this deal if fairly even, MTL gets a few good young players for 1 stud in jokinen and an expensive vet in Peca. Booth and Schultz will rerate up nicely next year and tanguay will still be solid so next year this looks like a good deal for MTL. This year, well who cares they arent going for it!
