Default Green Print- anybody try this?

After looking at the link for the US satellite getting shot down, there was also a video for Green Print. I watched the video and then had a look at their website.

Basically what this does is filters out a lot of the crap that we print. Meaning that if I'm printing a webpage, it will not print the "page 2 of 2" that is mostly blank with the exception of one line of text.

The other thing I like about how they offer it; is they offer a basic version for home users for free; in the hopes that us home users will tell our company's software people to buy the Enterprise edition.

Has anybody tried this program before? If so, any comments?

I just like the fact that its a way to be a little "greener" without going to extremes.

If you print 100's of documents a day that may become tedious.

How do you figure Canada 02? If he can save 1 page from every other job, that's 50 pages per day. In a 280 day work year that's 14,000 pages. Even from a cost standpoint @ 5¢ per page it's $700 per year. Then factor in how many employees at that company do the same thing.

And the "last page" thing is just one example of the things it does to save paper.

Don't get me wrong. If you follow the global warming threads you'll know that I fall into the "I don't think humans are causing global warming" camp. I just like to see ways to conserve that don't cost us our standard of living. To me this is like adding extra insulation to your house- something that is a win-win no matter what camp you fall into.

Well... 1 extra page across 100's of documents is 100's of extra pages. I guess it depends on your philosophy as to whether that matters or not... personally I wouldn't mind saving a 100 sheets of paper a day. Over 5 days a week, 48 weeks a year, thats 24,000 sheets of paper/year.

It shouold be said that trying to print a webpage that you want one page of often leads to printing 3 or 4 pages out of the printer. Many websites have loads of extra things on the page that you really don't want to print.

I'm not sure we're saving any trees. Wood chips are a by product of the timber industry. The trees that are too small and the tops of larger trees plus the clean wood waste are what goes to paper. These things would be burnt if there was no demand for paper(at least in B.C.). I've often wondered if recycled paper is environmentally sound. I don't know what takes more energy and chemicals: wood chips to paper or recycling paper.

Isn't all that stuff that goes into paper also used for wood products like OSB and particle board? And it isn't like there no new houses being built.

i use the nukeit addon in firefox, get rid of ads and random crap i don't want printed. Pretty useful, but like people have stated, big waste of time if your printing lots.
