Police concerned about order to stop weapons screening at Obama rally
Quote:
DALLAS -- Security details at Barack Obama's rally Wednesday stopped screening people for weapons at the front gates more than an hour before the Democratic presidential candidate took the stage at Reunion Arena.
The order to put down the metal detectors and stop checking purses and laptop bags came as a surprise to several Dallas police officers who said they believed it was a lapse in security.

Stupid.
So who takes the fall if Obama gets shot by someone who was allowed to walk into the Arena unchecked?
Obama and his staff for telling the Secret Service to speed up things....the Secret Service for listening, or the Dallas police for just obeying orders?

Oh sorry, I guess we can't blame the USSS.

Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said there was no order from the Secret Service to stop screening people going to the Obama rally Wednesday at Dallas's Reunion Arena.

I don't think it would harm anyone if ALL the people were made to walk through a metal detector, JUST to make sure if everything is okay.
It might be boring to listen to Obama's rhetoric about change, but the only thing 'worse' right now than listening to that rhetoric....is to have someone take a shot at Obama. Not that hard to do if someone is 'unchecked' and allowed to walk right into the arena with a weapon.
But hey...I suppose it was a 'friendly crowd'...so its all good.

In the old days, the Secret Service would have told Obama to get stuffed and continued to follow their security protocals.
But usually when your not looking nothing happens, but when you up the security something happens.
Reminds me of a funny story that I read concerning security for the president.
On Jimmy Carter's first day as president, he was getting the standard security briefing, and a secret service head moved on to the helicopter, and told Carter that in the event of an emergency, the presidential helicopter could be on the white house lawn in under 5 minutes.
Carter looked at him for a minute and then told him that he wanted the helicopter to pick him up right away.
At the time the two choppers, the primary and backup were getting maintenance done since they weren't expected to be needed that day.
It caused considerable embarrassment for the White House security staff and the secret service.
I might not like Carter that much, but thats a pretty funny moment.

Yeah, thats exactly what I was thinking too.
I'm sure if someone wanted to 'shoot' Obama, he'd walk into the arena with an 'unfriendly' look on his face.
This whole thing reeks of politician wussies thinking everyone is inherently good and nobody wants to harm them.

It would be interesting to find out who ordered the stand down in security.

Yeah, well I'm sure the USSS is concerned about people getting into the Arena on time.
Someone told the police to speed up things....so who told them? The USSS say they had no knowledge of people not going through the metal detector....and I doubt the police would pull anything like this.
And I doubt even more that it was a conspiracy to let someone in to kill Obama.

I saw both Clintons together, and Obama during the run-up to the caucuses, and never walked through a metal detector to do it. I also shook hands with Kerry in 04 on a street corner in downtown Davenport, obviously without being screened.
The Secret Service is better than a lot of people think at spotting problems in a crowd, but I do still worry about all our Presidents and candidates.

He's not going to get shot unless he starts winning the Presidential race. Beating Clinton, so far, is nothing to get excited about.

Don't overreact people. Nothing bad could happen to a president or presidential hopeful in Dallas.

You have reached the automated message response for CaptainCrunch, he can't respond to your post personally right now as he has had to make an emergency sight seeing trip to Dallas.
Please leave your message at the question mark
