Gibson Guitar Shopping?
So I have been looking for a Gibson Les Paul guitar and am looking for a place to buy it in Canada that will ship to Newfoundland. I have been checking out www.musiciansfriend.com out of the USA and although they will ship to Canada, I will obviosuly get nailed with duty charges.
ANy recommendations of where to buy one in Canada that might have some good prices?
KG I want to hear from you!
Thanks!

Try Steve's Music Store. Or E-Bay. Are you looking for a Les Paul Standard or Studio? Would love to hear about people's comparisons of these 2 models?

I was looking at the Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar
A wicked price and considering the minimal difference between the can and us dollas....seems like a wicked deal to me....but I know I will get nailed with duty and everything else that comes along with ordering from the states.

lame balls. everyone has a les paul. even me!
Firebirds rule. Have you ever played on either? I'd say $2k is quite the investment on something you haven't played yet

Gibson Les Pauls are massively overpriced, you can do much better for about the same money, like one of these

Haha, are you sure you want a Les Paul? I think you seem undecided.
I agree the best place in Canada to get Gibsons online is Steves Music Store. But i would still suggest going into a guitar store and playing one before you spend that much on a guitar you haven't played (if you haven't played one)

Well, that seems too good to be true to me. Like I said in my PM I'll ask my friend (posts on CP as Redline).

Are there Steve's music outside of Toronto/Montreal? I remember going to both. In any case they are closer to NFLD. Musician's Friend is okay but you'll pay duty/taxes/shipping and with the price of a Gibson, you'll pay close to $100 extra. If you can find a blemished model from Musician's Friend you can save a bundle.
BTW, they have the vintage Gibson Les Paul for $899

Yaw I was sizing that one up as well. What do you think of the Gibson Les Paul Studio Electric Guitar
???
Like these prices seem wicked cheap any ideas why? Are they just so big that they carry so many they get discounted prices on stuff?

Its not a wicked deal, but its a reasonable price for a Studio, it would cost about the same if you walked into any music store in Canada. Keep in mind that sticker prices for guitars are always a lie to make it look like they are always on sale. Its not $2100 guitar being sold for $1200, its a $1200 guitar being sold for $1200.
I looked into buying a guitar through musicians friend ~5 years ago, once you factor in freight and all the little costs, their guitars are more expensive than just going to a store. They also have a horrendous history for transportation damage and a 'F@#K you' approach to customer service. Maybe things have changed...

It's not wicked cheap. Sticker price is not accurate. The real market price is closer to what Muscian's Friend sells for as you can find via ebay auctions. Guitars are still overpriced in Canada as well, they are slow to adjust to the exchange rate.

I can't play a Les Paul, my hands are too small for the neck. Heck, my hands are too small for strat necks I've found. There's almost no guitars that fit me and that's frustrating.

Could you not just walk into a Gibson dealer and order one through the store near you, you might not get a deal but you have the chance to give it a nice one over beforehand
Myself, I'm sitting around waiting for the David Gilmour Signature Strat to be released, that or if I can find another nice '57 Vintage Series, I love the necks too much to move away from them

I have the opposite problem, I never use my Gibson SG anymore because it feels like my hand is getting bunched up. I've always thought the thin, short-scale neck was the most common type.
