Just saw No Country last night. I'm a huge Coen brothers fan but this even exceeded my lofty expectations. Was a little surprised at the ending and then as I got up I realized how much I absolutely loved it. Great flick.

Has anyone seen "I Am Legend" yet? Totally not my style of movie, but for some reason I really wanna see it.
In terms of your list, I'm still so disappointed with Transformers. I seriously don't think I had ever been so pumped up about a movie before I saw it. I know in hindsight, it shouldve been obvious that it would have alot of cheese(I mean its based on children's toys from the 80's for God's sake) but I was so disappointed walking out of there. I wanted Jurassic Park with robots.

Transformers was beyond bad.
Oh well. It was to be expected. Since when has Michael Bay made a good movie?

Juno does not have a scheduled local release date as per calgarymovies.com.
The fact that this and films like There Will Be Blood do not make it to theatres before January makes compiling a comprehensive year-end list exceedingly difficult. I will probably have to fudge it and then modify it accordingly later on.
(although I do not estimate anything will overtake No Country as my No. 1 pick - it will have to be something astronomical)

The guy knows how to make action movies and has done that many times. I guarantee you walked into Transformers thinking, "This is a Michael Bay movie, its gonna suck, he sucks, blah blah blah" ....So of course you're not gonna like it.
I hate Will Ferrell, but I still watch his movies with an open mind, and the odd one here or there makes me laugh.
But, this is gonna start into a Michael Bay bash fest, so let's just stop now, before the thread gets way derailed as it already has a little.

Saw it on an IMAX this past weekend. It was okay, nothing out of this world bad, nothing out of this world good. I would lean more towards good, so 6.5/7ish out of 10. Will Smith did a surprisingly good job with this tough character.

Loved Mr. Brooks as well. Great movie.
I haven't seen many movies at the theater this year. Did see I Am Legend this weekend.
The films I'm most excited to see are 3:10 to Yuma, No Country for Old Men and Bourne Ultimatum.
I'm so behind.

I concur. I think there was potential for it to be better than it was. I would suggest that it was far too short.

Ok thanks for the info! I'm really not one for that type of movie, but this one looked interesting. I just wanted to know if my interest was justified or if I was off my rocker on this one. I think its just got to do with me being the perfect age to grow up on Will Smith action movies that has me interested.

I really liked I am Legend, only flaw was that it was too short. I think Will Smith did a GREAT job.
One thing they did amazingly was get all of the little details almost perfect. There are plenty of props and backdrops that relay information to the viewer without it being directly conveyed to you by a character. It works very well.

I think Eastern Promises deserves to be on that list. I thought it was fantastic. A Might Heart is really good as well.
Trying to think of more that I enjoyed from 2007, but its tough to remember the ones from the beginning of the year.

I haven't seen I am Legend, but I read the ending is significantly different from the book, and not in a good way. Read the spoilers on wikipedia if you're really interested, but needless to say, I think Hollywood copped out big time by changing the ending (nothing new there, unfortunately).

Yeah, Michael Bay is a total hack rubbish director. For some great comedy, read Roger Ebert's review of Pearl Harbor:
http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/...105250301/1023
Quote:
"Pearl Harbor" is a two-hour movie squeezed into three hours, about how on Dec. 7, 1941, the Japanese staged a surprise attack on an American love triangle.
