Default Where to buy a snowboard?

Hey everyone, I'm looking to buy a snowboard for my gf for christmas. I've been boarding for about 12 years now, but I haven't had to buy a board since I've lived in Calgary. What are some good places in town I may not know about.

Obviously there are two choices in Mission and the source, but they seem quite overpriced to me, sportmart and sportchek have some good prices but I haven't checked those places out too much.

I can order a decent board for a great price from thehouse.com or from boardzone. I'm just wondering if there is anywhere else in town I could check out.

I'm not looking for a real top of the line board as she's just beginning, but I don't want a really cheap board because I want it to last a few years.
Any help would be appreciated.

Just go to one of the snowboard shops in kensington or 17th ave (Mission or Source)... Or if you live in the NW skaters in crowfoot is run by some really helpful people...

Not sure about boards, but Abominable Sports on Crowchild (near Kensington road) seemed to be an OK place to get skis. I always just rented from there, but their purchase prices seemed to be inline.

Check the Source's online shop....lots of deals on there all the time. Depends what you're looking for though, sportmart and sportcheck will carry the lower end Burton Boards that the Source or Mission won't have (or if they do will be more expensive). If you're just getting into it pick up a price point board from Sportchek, some middle of the pack bindings, and get some high(er) end boots. Don't forget boardsocks...you'll thank me when you don't have welts in your shins from tube socks like all your friends.

Ski Cellar Snowboard is a good place to get skis, staff is very knowledgeable, I'm sure they're good for snowboards too.

Go to Mission on 17th or Skaters right by Chinook LRT... Don't bother with ski shops unless you want a rossigonal or K2.. Mission is definately the best in town..

Yeah, I know about snowboards I've been boarding for 12 years. I was just looking for places to buy that I may not know about. My gf is just getting into it so I just want to get her something that will be half decent so she can use it for a few years.

You could also check out Chikko Snow & Skate Shop (I think they have 2 locations - check out yellowpages.ca).

Well, seeing as I've been involved in one way or another at the Source over the last 7 years I'm going to pimp them....but there are a lot of places you could go. There is a womens section at the Source upstairs on 17th, and before Mission sold a few years ago there was one right beside their store on 17th & 5th. Not sure if it's still there though, although I would assume it would be. If you were looking for cheap though, I'd check online stores in the States. They should be a little more reputable than Ebay, and with exchange right now you'd do alright, but I doubt it would get here by Christmas.

11for a new rider just go to sports check cheap boards...you don't need anything fancy to begin with just buy her a fire fly she can learn on it and if she likes snowboarding after that you can always upgrade to a better board. No point investing in top of the line gear if she won't even like it as what happened with my gf

Abominable are a**holes. I bought a pair of gloves last year (80$) and they were garbage and ripped the first half hour I was on the hill. They wouldn't return my money or equivalent, instead claiming that it is "very rare for snowboard gloves to tear, and that I most likely "tore them on purpose in order to get a free refund".
