Somehow, it all came from the suburbs. Led by family men Steve Van Kampen and his brother Paul, Beija Flor's auspicious emergence onto the Calgary scene in 2005 was often met with disbelief over the quality and scope of the group's live show. For starters, the band's myriad rock songs whipped through movements on the turn of a dime instead of following a predictable verse-chorus-verse structure. That and the boys' patented light-box machine (controlled by a foot-pedal system lesser musicians would trip over) gave proof of Beija Flor's dedication and attention to even the smallest detail.

Beija Flor, a Calgary Indie Rock and Roll band are releasing their sophmore album "The American" on December 29th at the Marquee Room (612 8th Ave SW). They are, in my opinion, one of the best local acts to break on to the Calgary scene in years. If you guys like stuff like Radiohead, The Arctic Monkeys, and The Beatles, you should really honestly check them out! I think tickets to the show are $10 at the door, and the show starts at 9:30.
I
am related to two of the members so I have an active interest in them but I genuinely think they are some of the most talented song writers in Calgary. Just give them a small chance and listen!
