Default Pens complete new top 6!

The Pittsburgh Penguins have completed their second deal of the weekend, giving coach Lindy Ruff what he wanted, a second line that can score. With the team being involved in shootouts on a regular basis we felt that we wanted to give our top 4 scorers some more help.

Deal #1:

To Pittsburgh
Scott Gomez
Andy Sutton

To Dallas:
Scott Hannan
Steve Bernier

Analysis: Simple deal, we get better up front while taking a hit on the backend. We thank Dallas for the smooth talks.

Deal #2:

To Pittsburgh:
Jason Pominville

To Anahiem:
James Van Riemsdyk
Keith Yandle

Analysis: This was a tough deal to make because we feel that JVR is real high end talent. We felt that JVR and Yandle would be a part of our team for a long time, but with our struggles we felt we could sacrifice some good youth to get a guy who is still pretty young but can help us now. This was a fun deal to make as negotiations went back and forth for a couple of days before being completed today. We wish JVR luck in the Ducks uniform as he should be a huge part of tat teams future.

We feel that these two deals give us one of the best group of top 6 forwards in the league and should help us take the load off our big 3.

Jokinen-Thornton-Spezza
Hemsky-Gomez-Pominville

Good deals. Your team improved a lot this year especially with the 2nd deal.

I thought you traded Hannan to Dallas in that deal though?

That is your fault, all were healthy before I played you.

But Gomez will be out a few games as well.

With that Bernier injury, the Stars 2nd line today is White centering Cooke and Heerema.

Fortunately healthy Scott Hannan is on the #1 pair with Markov today.

The Ducks are extremely glad to add a prospect of JVR’s calibre to our squad. This year is clearly a rebuilding year for the team so the loss of pominville does not affect us much. While he is still young and doing well, we feel that JVR has much more potential to obtain even higher results then pominville. He is a few years away but hopes are that he makes the big squad next season, if not we are willing to be patient as he is an outstanding young player who will become a key component of the Ducks as we begin to contend in years ahead.

Ducks also added Yandle who is a prospect close to the NHL, he should make it by next season and has shown a lot of promise so far to begin his young career. These negotiations took place over the course of a few days, Goff drove a tough bargain and I think from that both teams came out winners in this deal. The Pens now have probably the best top 6 out of any team in the league while still having two bluechip prospects in Backstrom and Price. The Ducks got a great young player who should grow along with a lot of the other young studs on this squad.

Thanks to Goff for the fun talks, hopefully Pominville can help out and bring a cup to the Pens!

I like the Pominville deal for Pitt. JVR is a nice prospect but years away from making an impact in either the NHL or CPHL. And Pominville is not only a solid all around forward but young and still improving as well. Big boost for the Pens to get a guy like him for Yandle and a non-roster player.
