For those into MMORPGs the World of Warcraft Open Beta has started.

I've been playing for a bit and it's quite fun

Massively Multiplayer Online RPG
Meaning most everyone running around doing stuff is a real person rather than a computer NPC, thousands per server. I killed a Horde guy last night, it's so much more satisfying knowing it's a person on the other end

I have spent about 2 days playing (got into stress test). So far it is pretty good. The quest system is really nice too. Once you complete all the quests in one area, your next quest moves you to the next area where there are monsters that will sustain you and your levels. Basically all I have done for leveling is do quests.
For those that are familiar with everquest and the death penalty, WoW does it a bit dfferent. You can either run back to your corpse, as a corpse, and res your self (with no penalty), or get rezzed by the nice angel lady, but all your equipment is reduced to a durability of 1.
The cinimatics alone are worth the 2.8 gig download.

Hey, great to see that it's Mac compatible, too! When I was first looking at this back a year ago, they said they had no plans to make it Mac compatible at the time. Of course, my little iBook doesn't meet the technical requirements, but maybe when I upgrade I'll give it a go.

I'm getting EQ2 today which looks alot better than WOW. I'll be playing on the Antonia Bayle server (RP preferred) if any of you guys want to hook up and slay a few
|
There has to be real player vs. player if I am gonna get into a game like that. EQ doesn't have that.

I've got a Lvl 13 Dark Elf Druid, and a Lvl 9 Tauren Hunter.. having more fun with the druid right now though.
Spent last night doing some PvP, fought off a raid in Darkshore, then tried to raid them back but some idiot trained a bunch of guards into us and slaughtered us, and then spent the rest of the night trying to defend Auberdine from a bunch of Level 25+'s. Lots of fun.
EQ2's graphics are technically better than WoW, though I disagree that the game looks better; EQ2 looks plasticy and fake to me, like a tech demo. WoW looks more like a real designed world. They went lower on the graphics to keep the system requirements down too.
SOE fooled me twice before with EQ and SWG.. I don't have the time anymore to grind for weeks just to get a necessary item or advance just a bit.

Isn't that going to be like the sissy consentual stuff?
"Wouldst thou like to settle thine differences with a duel"
"Aye swine off with ye head"
*engages consentual duel mode*
"Thou shalt be beaten when you hit 25% health"
"yaaaaag good showing, I surrender my honor to thee"

I played the orginal EQ (or Evercrack as a few called it ) a few years ago, but couldn't justify the monthly fee, especially knowing that I would have to devote a lot of time to play to get where I wanted to be, or at least get to a point that was respectable. Basically to be able to play with all the nerds online that do little else leaves you with little time for real life. It's a shame cause I really like those games, and would probably love WoW, but there's no point when others spend 4-10 times more time on than you.

actually WoW is geared toward the Casual gamer, theres a level cap so no matter how much time someone spends playing they wont be better then you @ lvl 60.
