Also following todays humiliating loss the Oilers made a couple of minor roster moves. First Tommy Santala and Stephen Weiss were moved back down to the Oilers AHL affiliate the Road Runners. To make room for the two CPHL'ers on the U of A experimental farm team Boyd Kane was told that he might want to check out a hockey career somewhere in Europe and was given 60 thousand dollars to pack his bags and go seek employment else where.

The Oilers also made a minor trade sending Patrik Elias, Brendan Morrow, and Jason Chimera to the Detroit Red Wings for Vincent Lecalvalier, Matt Cooke, and Andre "Stay in the box and feel shame" Roy. GM Sylvanfan admitted that the dapper looking Czech, and suspected member of the Kladno Gas Works crime organization Patrik Elias did not get along with team mates, and in fact was a bitter enemy of the young very tight Mr. Hossa. It appears that the two young star hockey players were fighting it out for the affection of the one good looking girl in Edmonton, and were willing to sacrifice the good of the team for individual glory. Being as Vincent Lecalvalier always attracts a fine contingent of young sexually experimental francophone Candadian groupies to any city he calls home, the Oiler GM felt that Vinny may be a better fit with his team. The fact that he'll bring good looking girls to this city, and to a team with so many single guys will definitely endear him to his team mates." Matt Cooke is a very comparable player to Morrow, and does bring a better defensive reputation with him. We see Matt as being a bit fiestier, and being able to pair with Bobby Holik on an effective third line. Still Brendan has been very good for us and we hope he doesn't haunt us too bad. The hope is that Cooke and Holik will be able to guide young Zherdev around the rink and not inhibit his tremendous offensive creativity. In the Roy for Chimera swap, it's simply fringe player for fringe player, with the Oilers getting the bigger tougher cheaper piece. Neither one is an impact CPHL'er in all honesty, and Chimera was scheduled for elimination from our organization at the end of the year anyway." When asked if there might be some further moves, the GM explained that he can't be too hasty, but still has some areas to address on his team.
