The Smelly Rat
November 19th, 2004
While one team continues to fall in the standings, only inches away from the CPHL basement floor, another team is steadliy getting better by playing very tight hockey.
"Today was the one I was waiting for" said Penney. "Today is the day that the Panthers surpassed the Hawks in the standings after that very lucky start they had to the season"
The Hawks surprised a lot of people by starting out the year int he hunt for a playoff spot. But after some VERY surprising trades by the Hawks GM, the team has come crashing down. Meanwhile the Panthers keep getting better and better.
"We know that we have a much better team than the Hawks and we knew it was only a matter of time before they were looking up at us in the stadings" said Penney with a big smile on his face. "The Hawks GM Pointy...(a.k.a 'statman') will most likely come up with some logical reasoning to prove that we didn't pass them in the standings". but the bottom line is that we are on our way up, and they are on their way down."
"We have quality players who are near the top of the league in a bunch of different catagories" said Penney. "We have a guy who is 3rd in league scoring and who currently has the league's longest scoring streak. We have A guy who is near the top in +/- . We have a quality system in place and we have no desire to trade or change anything that is working for us" said Penney.
It is rumored that Panthers GM Dave Penney was laughing hyserically while heading home on Friday. He was heard mentioning something to the equipment manager about having the Hawks 1st round selection in this year's draft...
More details to follow.

Well, it doesn't really take a lot of logical explanations. You are saying that
1) Hawks are terrble
2) Panthers now have as many points as Hawks
3) That means that Panthers are excellent
great logic

True!
If the only argument that Panthers are great is that they have as many points as Hawks, what that makes Bruins? Oh they are 6 points higher than Hawks they are probably as great as 91-92 Penguins!
I also didn't get that "1st pick" thing.
It was a great plan by Panthers GM to pay a lot for his 1st and then climb up the standings to make this pick as bad as possible. Average GM would rather go on the run first and then trade for his 1st for much cheaper, but Panthers GM showed great GM skills to go an unorthodox way.
On the other hand, moronic Hawks GM sold Panthers 1st when they were very low and hold onto Stars 1st rounder, who is very likely to be top 3 at worst. Yeah, check out Stars, man.

You know what I find so interesting about all this draft pick stuff? When you guys are fighting for the possible number one pick you seem to be assuming that the GM of the team wont change and that the team will continue a set pattern. Could be a decent waste of time and assets I think.

You are right in all except for "waste of time". Real NHL GMs are doing the same when they are fighting for top picks. They assume that this or that team will finish last or bottom 5 or something. No question, current pattern may change, but all GMs are still doing it.

Well, the turnover rate here is nothing like the NHL. So, I think its a waste of time.

Well I haven't once mentioned the Penguins team because I know it can change at any mintue. I fully understand that the Pens can change for the better at any time
Pointy on the other hand decides to insult teams who have never said anything bad about him.

It's not nice to insult someone when they have never said anythign to you.
I own my own 1st round pick and can basically make my team to be the worst one if I want to. Yet, I submit lines everyday and play the game as best as I can.
I talk about the Hawks 1st round pick because I don't mind insulting Pointy...he insults me all the time!

It was me or you, who started this thread? It was me, who started to talk about Panthers or you, who started to talk about Hawks just after you've tied them in standings?
I never insulted Stars GM. Stars are on their rebuilding cycle and just like Hawks GM, Stars GM will not give up on his long-term aim for some short-term success. For the same reason I'm not even remotely consider this season goal as to get higher than Panthers. Stars will dominate CPHL for years to come (heck Miller alone could get them to the top).
