Yeah. Thibault and Theodore both pulled in their debuts after the big trade between the Rangers and Wild. A rather auspicious start for both players.

DC-The New Jersey Devils played a hard fought game tonight but came up just alittle short with a 3-2 OTL to the Capitals. The Devils showed a lot of heart tonight by coming back from a 2-0 deficit with just under 12 minutes remaining in the third period. Mark Recchi scored his 3rd goal in the last 2 games while Teemu Selanne notched his first goal as a Devil as he tied the game with just 49 seconds remaining in the 3rd period. However, Markus Naslund scored just 7 seconds into overtime to give the Caps the victory. The Devils penalty killing was solid tonight killing off all 7 Capital powerplays but the powerplay wasn't very good going 0-5. The Devils remain in a tie for 29th place with the Penguins who managed a 3-3 with the Flyers. The Devils now have points in 3 of their last 4 games and they look to continue their charge up the standings on Thursday as they host the Thrashers. The Devils now sit 7 points behind the Bruins for the last playoff spot in the Gretzky Conference.

Quite a game for the Sabres.
Their new 'first line' of Palffy, Prospal and Isbister (playing his first game against his former mates) has a big night in their first game together.
Two Rangers injured as the night went on.
Pretty dominant performance. Somehow Mr Cory Cross ends up a minus player though. go figure.
Chris Drury with a decent loss against his former mates in a losing cause.

An Auspicious Start
Thibault Pulled in Wild Debut
Clearly this was not the debut the Wild or Jocelyn Thibault was hoping for.
Making his first start since being acquired from the Rangers, Thibault was less than stellar in a 6-4 loss to the Blue Jackets. Thibault gave up 5 straight goals in the 2nd period, on 15 total shots as the Wild fell for the 2nd time in 3 games.
Farhall was quick to place the blame for Thibault’s poor effort on his own shoulders.
“Jocelyn looked tired out there. In retrospect we should have started Snow in this game and it would have given Jocelyn a chance to rest. He’s played a lot of hockey this season so far and I think he needs a break. We’ll play Garth on Thursday to give Jocelyn a chance to re-charge the batteries”.
The game also saw the Wild blow a 3 goal lead which they gained on first period goals from Brendan Morrison and Richard Zednik, followed by a second period tally from Dan Hamhuis. However the Jackets exploded in the 2nd with 5 straight goals to chase Thibault and gain control of the game. The Wild got back to within one goal on a 2nd goal from Zednik, however, Marty Gelinas put the game out of reach for the Jackets with a goal late in the third.
The Wild peppered Ed Belfour with 12 shots in the third, but could not beat the veteran netminder.
”Its disappointing because for all but 10 minutes of this game we outplayed the Jackets.
However, that 10 minutes in the 2nd period was horrible and cost us the game.”
Farhall announced that the team will be given Tuesday off and will resume normal practice on Wednesday in preparation for Thursday’s tilt against the Blues. That game will see the return of Willie Mitchell to the lineup who was suspended for 4 games. The Wild were 2-2 in Mitchell’s absence and Farhall is anxious to get the dependable blueliner back in lineup.
“We’ve missed him a lot. He plays big minutes for us and is so steady out there. It will be great to have him back.”
The Wild also announced that Mitchell had been awarded an “A” by the club, joining captain Matthias Ohlund and fellow Alternate Captain Brendan Morrison.
Game Notes
-Brendan Morrison’s first period goal extended his point scoring streak to a league leading 9 games.
-The Wild scored 2 PP goals to continue to lead the league in that department. Richard Zednik also leads the league in powerplay goals with 6.
-Matthew Lombardi made his Wild debut but only saw one shift in the second period.
-The Wild have placed winger Andreas Dackell on waivers likely signaling the end to the players time with Minnesota.

Game Story
The Lightning continued their winning ways on Monday as they defeated the visiting Maple Leafs 3-2. Led by Bryan Smolinski’s two goals and the first good game played by Felix Potvin this season the Lightning effectively held of the Leafs and score a late goal to earn the win. The Lightning played well on special teams as they once again ran into some penalty trouble, although super-goon Tomas Kloucek only had one penalty, holding the Leafs scoreless on the PP and scored on one of their two chances when on the powerplay.
GM Moon:
“It was a gritty performance by the guys out there tonight. We have expected the top guys to play well all season long and tonight Bryan came through for us. If we are able to get this type of output from the top guys and get the goaltending that Felix and John have given us lately we’ll do just fine this year and make a real push for the play-offs.”
Unfortunatly leading scorer and top defenseman Boris Mironov was injured.
GM Moon:
“It sounds like it is a minor injury and Boris will be day to day. We’ll let him rest the next couple of days and re-examine it then. I am confident he will be ready for the next game.”
That next game is on Thursday when the Lightning travel to Atlanta to play the Thrashers.
Unfortunately, Springfield lost once again in 2-0 shut-out to St. John. The farm team has been struggling lately and GM Moon’s chances at winning the IBM award is looking less and less likely every day.

Scoring Winger
|
Hot hot heat. Not usually associated with Denver but the Avs won their 6th straight game tonight! The win improves the Avs to a somewhat shocking 7-2-2-0 and sees the upstart Avalanche move in to 2nd in the Howe and 8th overall which says a lot about the difference in conferences.
However the Avalanche's success isnt down to luck. Roman Turek continued his miserly ways allowing just one goal for the 3rd straight game as Vancouver were beaten by a count of 4 goals to 1.
Quick starts have been a feature of the Avs' run and this trend continued to some extent this evening with them taking the lead on account of a 3rd goal of the season for Grosek after Brylin and Wallin had combined to set the skillfully-challenged but pocket friendly right wing free of the Canucks blueliners. The lead however only lasted 3 minutes as Barnes would get the Canucks level before the 1st intermission on a helper from Sydor. After that though Turek closed the door.
Less than 80 seconds in to the 2nd saw the Avs back in the lead. Branko Radivojevic continued his form that has many teams seeking his services like a student in Amsterdam on pay day. Brankoe netted on helpers from Sedin and also from Cleary who continues to just and no more get away with his impersonations of a hockey player. Midway through the 2nd Grosek got his second of the evening thanks to Trnka and McInnis.
In to the second half of the 3rd period and the unlikely scorers continued with Beaudoin netting for the 4th time this year. Armstrong and Brendl regaining consciousness for just long enough to set him up.
Notes
Canucks out shot Colorado 28-22
Avalanche penalty kill continues to excel, blanking all 9 opportunities for the Canucks.
Berg and McLaren had scoreless nights but were both a team-high +2 for the evening.
Avalnche overtook the Sharks for the lead tonight and now proudly lead the CPHL in Penalty Killing.

Well it took 6 games but the Panthers PP has finally caught fire, and there is no sign of it slowing down. Despite a tough 4-2 los today against a great Predator's team, Alex Auld and the Cats put up a good effort. The Panthers went 2-4 today on the PP and have now moved all the way up intot he middle of the pack after sitting in the CPHL basement for so long.
"We made a few changes to our lineup and it has helped us tremendously in the PP department" said Penney. "A few key players were brought in which has made a world of difference".
"Alex Auld was solid in net by only allowing 4 goals on 36 shots today" said Penney. "Garon surely would have let in 5 like he does every game and would have gotten pulled. Auld kept this game much closer than it should have been" said Penney.
Auld will once again get the start in the next game when the Panthers play the Leafs.

"We suck".
The Vancouver Canucks have reached a new level of suckage. GM Mango was seen crying in corner during the third period, watching their only star-type forward go down with a "facial" injury. Gagne will be out the next 2 - 3 weeks. Mango was also crying over depressing and pathetic stat of her team going 0 - 9 on the powerplay. The media tried to get comments after the game, but she snubbed everyone and seemed to flip off the media as she was walking to her car. The Canucks really had no chance going up against the red-hot Avalanche. The Avs have been playing solid hockey this season and the Canucks didn't even come out to play. The entire defensive core, with the expectation of Darryl Sydor, has been a joke. Former NHL all-star Tom Poti is a pathetic version of the real player he can be.
The Canucks really need to stock up on more tissues. They are going to need them. It's going to be a long season.

While still unimpressed with the fortunes of the Pens in the early going, GM Jasino was seen with a little smile on his face today.
"We are doing about as well as expected" claimed Jasino in a quick interview as he was on the other line trying to get all remaining games scheduled against the Philly Flyers.

Hawks lost 3 key players, Sheldon Souray, Adam Hall and Kurt Sauer with injures during their game with Wings. Sauer is listed healthy already, however will miss tomorrow's game with Jackers due to low condition.
Hawks, who failed to fire at least 20 shots in last 3 games, stormed out of the gate with 10 shots in 1st period. However, injures and great play by Kiprussoff slowed team down as game went on.
Hawks keep their goaltending strugglin as it was 3rd time in last 4 games Hawks goalie was pulled after allowing 5 goals. On the other side of the rink Miikka Kiprussoff earned first star of the night, posting shutout.
It's first time in 4 games loosing streak Hawks managed to fire more than 20 shots at opponents goalie, with Sami Salo leading the way with 7 shots.
Rookie Alexander Ovechkin spent as many minutes on the ice as in penalty box, 2 minutes apiece. Hawks GM was seen wondering how it happened, that a player, who was assigned to play on top line and first PP unit (and he is listed as such in rosters section down the page) finished the game with 2 minutes of icetime.
edited: However, to sim's creadit it should be said, that this time Hawks GM learned from his earlier mistakes and managed to sent a line-up that prevented sim from inserting some odd players here and there.

Well the BIG trade worked immediately for the Capitals as Naslund had a goal and an assist including scoring the winner in OT. JohnnyFlame noted Malik was -3 on the same night and was simply stunned by that terrible performance. "I don't remember him ever having a night like that with the Capitals but I'm sure eventually the deal will work for both teams.
Devils have a habit of scaring the Capitals and look like a team that is on the rise thanks to some good management.
Capitals now get two days off and will be well rested for their next game against the Penquins.

BRUINS LOOK LIKE OLD SELVES
Boston (AP) - The Monday blues were no where to be heard in Beantown last night as the Bruins handily beat the Atlanta Thrashers 5 - 1. It was a game full of complete and utter domination by the Bruins. Yanic Perreault found his groove on the Boston PP scoring 2 goals and assisting on the Zubov PP opener.
All-Star centre Mike Modano also had a decent game scoring two in the second. The Thrashers were held scoreless until the 13:09 mark of the third period.
The only negative aspect of the game was the play of returning veteran defenceman Curtis Leschyshyn. Curtis was seen before the game being egged on by THE Brian Holzinger to go out and carve a few Thrashers up like so much Thanksgiving turkey. Curtis, who is going through some personal problems related to the move from New Jersey to Boston, decided to clip Thrasher Denis Arkhipov with the heel of his stick in the first period and, consequently, took a 4 minutes double minor. On his very next shift he smacked Craig Conroy over the helmet and earned himself a minor for high sticking and a misconduct. The Trashers were incensed by the laughter heard coming from the direction of the Bruins hallway as THE Brian Holzinger razzed Leschyshyn for his stupidity.
Ryan Smyth took his frustrations out on Bruin Sean O'Donnell. O'Donnell had just been called for boarding on Adam Deadmarsh when Smyth gave him a decent chop on the back of his neck. O'Donnell was in considerable pain but finished the game.
Next up for the Bruins are the Ducks of Anaheim in a couple days. Major changes to the lineup for the Bruins are not expected. A line shuffle is in the works whoever.

Yup, and Rasmussen showed his magic ability to affect team's play. As Hawks, who were .500 team before his trade, went on 4 games losing streak with 4-19 combined score, Bruins "look like old selves" after acquiring enigmatic power forward. Rasmussen himself did not post great perfomance according to stats, but he seems to be very important component for any team in this sim.

KINGS 3 OILERS 4
Mike Peca's two goals were not enough to pace the Kings past rival in the standings Edmonton. In a relatively close game, it came down to one goal in the third period to decide it, and it was an Oiler who scored.
Mattias Weinhandl also scored for LA, on a new powerplay which featured Patrice Bergeron at centre. Peca's goals were both assisted by Alex Tanguay and Kimmo Timonen.
As like last game against Edmonton, a King injured an Oiler. This time it was Derian Hatcher beating on Alexei Morozov. Morozov left with a hip injury.
In the minors it was Manchester over the Roadrunners, 5-2 as star goalie Derek Gustafson was placed back in the Monarchs' net.

Oilers Topple Kingdom
But the War isn't over just yet
Amidst a week of controversy the Oilers turned out a spirited effort in toppling the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 today. After a tumultuous week off the ice the Oilers gave a spirited effort in slaying the CPHL's resident bully squad. J.P. Dumont, Ales (the next great one) Hemsky, and Brian Rafalski paced the good guys with 2 point efforts each. The Oilers actually received great efforts from the 2-4th lines in disposing of the evil dirty Kings today. Along with Hemsky and Dumont, Jay Bouwmeester and Andy McDonald helped Kings goalie Dan "You suck you Jackass" Cloutier view his dailey quotient of redlights behind his head.
Dumont opened the scoring early for the Oilers on the nicest play in the history of hockey[/b]when he took a feed from Scott Hannan on the boards in his own zone and did a series of figure eights around every Kings player on the ice before sliding the puck into an open cage behind an entirely undressed Cloutier. The Kings did rally after that embarassment and held a 2-1 lead after the first. The Oilers got two quick goals just after the midway point of the second from A-Mac, and J-Bo to spring ahead 3-2. But Captain goon Mike Peca slew footed Adam Foote, took advantage of the blatent miscall and tied the game late in the second.
The real fireworks took place 7:34 into the third when Derien Hatcher made his attempts to defy the laws of Physics and high sticked Alexie Morozov in the hip. Morozov left the game and was listed as day afterwards. There was a near riot on the bench as Oilers co-coach Bobby Schmautz, grabbed Nikolai Zherdevs stick and attempted to go after the Kings bench. After a 15 minute dealy and heated shouting match the ensuing penalty kill all but finished the King defence as after the penalty expired. The great Hemsky scored another beauty goal to give the Oilers the lead for good.
After the game the war of words was on between new Oiler GM Sylvanfan and the Architect of those Punk Kings Icarus. Sylvanfan vowed to bring his secret weapon Alexander Perezhogin into his next match with the Kings along with a few other surprises. Him and Bobby Schmautz also placed a $50,000 bounty on the curly locks of Derien Hatcher for any player who retributes the big dumb defenceman. Oh yes the Oilers appear to be a much more spirted bunch at the least. Now if only some of that spirit would rub off on Hossa and Elias.
Next game on Thursday in Vancouver, as the Oil begin an epic 4 game in 5 night stretch where they will overnight to Buffalo for a Satuday game, than return home Sunday to face the Ducks. They than will have a night off before facing another strong team the Rangers. Thank god for that CPHL matter transporter that makes travel instantaneous.
