I gotta go off the list and say Talib Kweli. Eardrum is the best hip hop album of the year.
I will be picking up Kanye, so I guess he wins over 50. Personally however I would never and have never even gone so far as to touch a 50 cent album so it really isn't much of a contest.

That other thread was to announce it, this is to discuss it maybe?
I bought both albums today. I think Kanye has put out a killer album. 50 cent put out another fluff. His first Cd was good, but since then? Meh.

I just finished listening to the entire 2 albums. I'm no self proclaimed music database, but from a casual listeners standpoint...and a fan of both artists...Kanye has put out a much more creative, original sound. 50 is still holding onto that typical sound he's had for 3 or 4 albums now and it's a tad redundant.

I've never understood the appeal of Kanye yet. I just find his stuff overall boring. His rapping is slow and boring and really lacks any special talent, and his producing is quite bland. Yet... apparently people love it.

50's album isn't even worth two quarters (or so I'm assuming).

I bought Kanye and downloaded 50. Kanye sounds good so far. Doesn't seem to have alot of radio hits, but some good tracks that will take some getting into.
Haven't listened to any 50 yet.

Didn't 50 say if Kanye outsells him, that he'd stop making albums? He'd still be making music, but he'd stop releasing solo albums. Anyone else hear the same?

Kanye's album is musically better. I'm sure anyone who listens to hip-hop would know that. When all is said and done, 50 should still come on top, sales-wise. According to hiphopdx.com, the numbers favour Kanye. Regardless of who sells more (And you know they both want to come out on top, being two of the biggest egos in the game) it's been a major debate in the hip-hop world and in pop culture for that matter. The only difference is, it's not about someone dying or violating parole and going to jail. Something that has been the norm for hip-hop music in the media.

I'm not sure how much you listen to rap music or if you do, who you're into. I never like to debate about music because everyone is entitled to their own musical tastes. However, I will say that Kanye has progressed the rap game in terms of production. He's easily Top 3 producers in hip-hop, right now. He pushed the envelope in the early 2000's with the sped-up 45 samples that the likes of Just Blaze, Hitmakerz, Timbo and Polow have used. The College Dropout and Late Registration are he's basically given Common 2 albums that have put him on the pop culture map.I'd like you to point out the songs that you have found, "bland". ...curious to hear.

Won't even download fifty cent, that song with JT isn't bad but that's about it.
Kanye's album is tight, I like it a lot especially the song with Mos Def on the Japanese version called "good night".
Also, the song "good life" samples MJ's PYT and there is NOTHING wrong with sampling MJ!

Billboard has learned that today's SoundScan Building Chart indicates first-day sales of 437,000 for West's "Graduation," 310,000 for 50 Cent's "Curtis" and 107,000 for Chesney's "Just Who I Am: Poets and Pirates.
