Question Cheap way to make a call to an overseas cellphone?

I have a friend in Ireland who has a cellphone, but no landline. What would be the cheapest way to call her? Any ideas? It seems rates really go up when you call a cellphone.

Tell her to get a calling card, and then use that to call you? Not perfect, but a lot better. And have her use it, if possible, during a time of day that is unlimited minutes or whatever for her.

Good idea- she has already done that. Any way I can call her, though?

VOIP is not a great option for me as I would only make the occasional call.

does it have to be by regular phone or VOIP or things like that?

I.e. can it be by computer? If you both have your own, just use, for example, msn messanger, buy cheap mics and voila, you can talk for free to your heart's content (assuming you already have the internet etc up and running)....

If you're going to talk over the net, Skype is probably your best bet. You can also use it to call phone numbers through the net, but its expensive to call a mobile phone (23 cents/min to Ireland. but only 2 cents/min to a landline).

Ok, curious question here. what's the difference btwn something like this and say msn or whatever messanger? Is it that you can call phones from your computer or something? I.e. why do people pay money for something like that?
