White Stripes to play all of Canada!!!
I think this is pretty cool. I can't think of another foreign band to do it.
Thursday, April 26, 2007.
THE WHITE STRIPES TOUR THE GREAT WHITE NORTH ANTICIPATION BUILDS FOR NEW RECORD “ICKY THUMP”, OUT TUESDAY, JUNE 19, 2007.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.
This summer The White Stripes will visit their Canadian neighbours as they embark on one of the most ambitious tours undertaken by any international artist. The 18 date tour of Canada touches down in all 10 provinces, as well as the Yukon, Nunavut and Northwest Territories. Dates are listed below.
“Having never done a full tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog. We want to take this tour to the far reaches of the Canadian landscape. From the ocean to the permafrost. The best way for us to do that is ensure that we perform in every province and territory in the country, from the Yukon to Prince Edward Island. Another special moment of this tour is the show which will occur in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia on July 14th, The White Stripes’ Tenth Anniversary.” - Jack White
This extensive tour is in support of The White Stripes new album, ICKY THUMP, which will be released Tuesday, June 19th. Icky Thump finds the duo of Jack and Meg Whiteever-changing, yet still remaining in their “little red box.” Icky Thump is a sonically thick, modern sounding record which reveals its roots in American folk music at every turn. As the opening notes kick off the album, the listener knows he/she is in for an untypical-as-typical White Stripes ride. Recorded at the Blackbird Studio in Nashville, Icky Thump is the most sonically bombastic record The White Stripes have made to date. The album’s lead single and title track was delivered to Canadian Radio on Wednesday and was immediately picked up by more than a dozen influential rock stations.

Thanks for posting that...I tried to get tickets last time they were in Canada when they played in Vancouver but wasn't able to...it was for their Elephant tour and apparantly it was an amazing show. Not sure if I'll try to see in Edmonton or here...the venue defenitely seems better in Edmonton.
BTW, I just heard Icky Thump and it's awesome. The sound is, as always, different and IMO better than the sound for Get Behind Me Satan...

This tour completely blows my mind... makes no sense at all.

Not just playing every nook and cranny, BUT not playing the major venues in every nook and cranny.
For those that don't know the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay NS is historical and has had many of the greatest entertainers of all time perform on its stage.
However, it doesn't seat nearly what Centre200 just down the road in Sydney (where the band will have to stay) seats.
Maybe I'm just complaining as I didn't realize tickets went on sale and it sold out this morning in 12 minutes.

I read an article on this. Jack apparently said "well, we've done a lot of touring...I always say let's tour Canada! They've been great to us...so let's tour there. I really mean tour....but then, you know, record execs, tour managers and stuff. But this time we put our foot down. We said no Canada? no tour. And not just parts of Canada, all of it. I don't want to miss say PEI or some little place in Nunavut. That's part of Canada. I want to do all of it; not have someone come down the road at some time and say 'well, you toured Canada, but you missed here and there'. I want to do it all".
Ok that may not be the exact quote exactly, but that is the general idea that he said and the article conveyed across.

I'd probably go check them out but I hate seeing concerts in the Saddledome and I'm all music-ed out after Coachella. Alas, I hear they put on a pretty good show.

I'm going to be financially responsible and not go. That makes me sad.
