Obscure 80's toys
Everyone that grew up in the eighties remembers Transformers, Ninja Turtles, G.I Joe, Thundercats etc.
Thinking back, I had a lot of really weird toys and have no idea what they were called.
Here's a couple:
Sectaurs: Giant, electronic bug puppets with guys that would ride on them. I had a huge dragon fly.
Battle Beasts: Don't know the story, just remember the eartch, water, fire holograms.
Silverhawks: Hawk/men that lived in a small moon base and would fly around.
Macross: I was never able to get one of these even though I thought they were the coolest toys ever.
Here is something I found that I know people would like.
A paper model of Optimus Prime you can build. It's Friday afternoon, what the hell.

Anyone else have any bizzare toys?

Stompers battery powered trucks used to rule. We'd build all sorts of stuff to see what it could tackle. They'd even run underwater....

I used to love Capsella.
It was fun, easy to build stuff that moved. And despite my best intentions it actually taught me some basic mechanics; like how gears, drive shafts, and differentials work.
Speaking of obscure toys, does anybody remember a specific building block set? It was basically rings about 2 inches in diameter that had 4 legs. You could build all sorts of buildings with them. I'm just trying to remember the name of them.

I had Blip (although that is '77, so pre-80's).
A very early electronic game, although the only electronic part was the LED that represented the ball. The actual movement was mechanical - a wind-up spring that powered an arm to go back and forth.

That wasn't it. I made an attempt to draw it in Paint, and hopefully I can link to an image in facebook:
I also remember Blip. We used to sometimes play it blind- turning off the light. That was until I memorized the pattern, then nobody would play it with me anymore.
Edit- looks like I can't link to it in facebook.
Edit X2- got a buddy to host it for me.

I always wanted one of those M.A.S.K. toys but never got one. They were trucks and what not with cool weapons. So cool.

I don't know if I would call Macross an obscure toy. I remember Robotech being very big when I was a kid.

Battle beasts owned!
I'm trying to remember the one set of action figures that came with a hologram on a staff... and as the story went, the hologram held a mythodical creature. It also came out with a cartoon, but it became a horrible flop.
Or the bugs that the wings flapped mechanically... and it had a glove underneath...
I wish I could remember all the names... my bro and I had what was going to be my dad's sauna room turned into a toy room... it was sick how many toys we had. We left all the toys in the room when we moved. We probably gave away hundreds of dollars worth of toys...

Ooooooh, I remember those circuit board things! They were cool!
I was also big into Mechano and train sets. We had a really elaborate model train setup. I still love train sets to this day.

I fixed the link above for that obscure toy that I'm trying to find the name for. Excuse my poor Paint skills.
And there may have been another ring towards the bottom of the legs.

What you're talking about seems vaguely familiar. I remember those things, but can't place the name.
