Default Possibly moving to Alberta

Now that I'm fresh out of college and all that, I'm looking for decent-paying jobs basically anywhere I can write about hockey. One such place, apparently, is Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Anyone here live in that area that could fill me in on what that's like?

Thanks gang.

Well, I hope the pay is good as the cost of everything out here is attrocious for someone starting out. Are you prepared to get a second job?

Make sure you have a place to live before you come. Too many show up to find there's no places to rent or they can't find anything in their price range.Do your research before you make any job commitments.

Rocky? It's...a town. I grew up about an hour away in Drayton Valley. I don't know how much opportunity there would be there (RMH) for a hockey writer, though. Probably depends if the local paper is looking for someone. I would think either of the two big cities would be better for that. If you aren't picky about the job, you shouldn't have any problems finding one anywhere in Alberta, though. I'm curious as to why Rocky Mountain House would be suggested as a good place to write about hockey...

It was listed as sports in general, but hockey was listed first, leading me to believe that this would be the primary focus of the job. I've yet to hear back on my email that was a basic inquiry about the whole situation.

Rocky would just be a community paper where you'd cover minor hockey, local sports, maybe some of the local players who've made the NHL. I think Brad Stuart and Nick Tarnasky are the only two. I can't remember if they have a junior B team there or not in the Heritage league, I don't think they do. If you like the outdoors theres some beautiful country just West of Rocky and people love camping out that way.

Yeah, it'll likely be what Syl said. If you like the job and find a place, Rocky'd be a nice town to live in. Close to the mountains, good paddling on the North Sask, nice community.
