Default Best City in the US to Vacation in..

Okay I along with a few friends want too plan a trip to the States (only 1 destination for 6 days). We're having trouble picking where we want too go, so I wanted to know what are your personal favorites???? I dont want to go and lay on a beach but go sightseeing and shopping (lots of shopping). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

/\ We're not over the age of 21, most of us are 20 and 3 (younger siblings) are 15, 16, and 17. I always heard Vegas is only fun if you're over 21, is that true??

LA....hands down.

Disneyland, Universal Studios, Disneyland, Six Flags, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Disneyland, Sea World, Disneyland, Hollywood, Disneyland, Beaches, 1hr to Mexico (depending on where you stay....I'd stay in Orange County). Disneyland.

I like Disneyland.

New York is pretty cool. Then again, it is probably like Vegas in that being the age of majority would make things even better.

Why does it have to be the U.S.? A holiday in a place like Montreal can be just as fun for entertainment and shopping.

Stay right in Anaheim (Anaheim Residence Inn Resort Area is nice....free hot breakfast and evening "snack-type" meals. Piles of restaurants right around it including fast food). There is an Anaheim Resort Transit stop right outside the hotel which goes right to Disneyland and then you can book day trips to most of the other attractions. The only taxi or alternate transit would be to the beach. We booked our vacation with Disney travel (available online), saved a pile of money on Airfare, hotel and attractions and it included convenient things like one payment, insurance, coupons and other stuff.

Agreed. Although don't stay in Inglewood. I made that unfortunate mistake back in February, and didn't know I was actually staying in that neighborhood until I left. I've never had a such a bizarre night in my life - encounters with psycho drivers, lunatics on the streets and gang members. Fun times!

I've been to LA half a dozen times and NYC three times. I keep on saying I'll check out Chicago, New Orleans or Miami but eh.

I'll have to say NYC.

Las Vegas is not my thing, been there 3 times and never had the desire to stay for long. I don't gamble, I don't drink, I don't care for the place.

The 1hr to Mexico is what does it. Once you get over the border it doesn't matter how old you are if you want to have a good time...you can get boozed & tatooed all for very cheap, regardless of how old you are, not to mention all the debauchery at a fair price.

Disneyland is overrated...TJ baby.

I second this. But if it has to be the US, I would suggest NYC, Miami, San Francisco, Chicago, or Seattle. With NYC well ahead of the others.

Here's a quote I got from a SoCal native, "TJ is gross". She stands by the statement.

She did mention a better alternative for cross border fun, but I can't remember it.

Actually, that's a very interesting juxtaposition. Disneyland gives you a highly sanitized, very clean, family-oriented escape into the world of simple amusement. Tijuana is pretty much the exact opposite but provides a more extreme level of entertainment.

I live about two hours from Orlando and usually go there every couple months for the weekend to get away. I guess it depends on what you are looking to do? You seem like a young group, that is not old enough to get into clubs and bars here in the US. That might defeat the purpose of going to a place like Las Vegas.

Sounds like you are looking for shopping and things to do. Orlando has that. Disney World, Epcot, MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Sea World, City Walk, International Drive will keep you busy for 6 days. There is good shopping here, pretty much anything you want, with two MAJOR Orlando-area malls, Florida Mall and Mall at Millenia (upscale).

There is all types of stuff to do on International Drive (accomodations, miniature golf, go karts, bungee jumping, stores from A-Z).

Let me know if you have questions...

I've only been to NYC once, but I'm going back again sometime.

If you're too young for Vegas, there is still tons to see in do in NYC (legally).

And if you say you have 6 days, then NYC is about right.......there is just no way to see everything you want to see there in only 2 or 3 days.

If you're not renting a vehicle, a suggestion I haven't seen is Boston. Great city for sightseeing that you don't need a vehicle to get around in.

Given your ages I would choose Orlando over everywhere else mentioned. There is a huge variety of theme parks plus from all accounts there is lot's of shopping too. (I'm not a shopper.) For urban, touristy type, places in the states Orlando is, by far, my favourite.
