Default Know Your Customer requirements

My online sportsbook now requires a lot of very personal information in order to process my withdrawals. This includes, photocopies of my credit card and drivers licence (front and back) and a copy of a recent credit card statement as well as my SIN.

Both online sporstbooks I deal with say they now require this info under the Know Your Customer rules contained in the US Patriot Act. I'm uncomfortable sending this information in, but they will not process my withdrawals without it. Is anyone familiar with this law and whether it is really required for Canadian customers? I am dealing with reputable sportsbooks so I think my information is likely safe, but I'm still a bit wary of providing this info.

Man, that is waaaaaaaaaay to much info to be giving to even a very reputable company, that would make me nervous enough to look elsewhere.

Know Your Client rules are typically aimed at money-laundering.

A copy of your credit card and a copy of the credit card statement are interesting variations . . . . . but perhaps understandable since you likely require those to execute bets.

The requirements above - except the credit card information - would also apply to a typical financial institution as well.

That is a lot of info to be giving away. Once anyone has that
information, they essentially are you.

In another thread, which isn't resolved but I think I have a way around
it, I am wary of sending the same info as above to Equifax to have my
credit report cleared. And Equifax is "reputable" as well, and supposedly
have this info about me already. I'm not ready to just fax it over
because some guy on the phone says so.

Copy of your credit card, so they can grab the "confirmation code"
off the back or front, depending on the credit card.
Drivers license gives them a signature.
SIN...well, that's the supposed secret number you have to confirm
it's you when asking for credit.
Recent credit card statement, as that's one of the common things
a credit card company uses to verify you say you are you. "What
was the billing amount on <date>?"

I would contact the credit card company that you deal with, and ask them.

If there's anything fishy with the company, I'm sure your CC company would know.

Thanks for the advice guys. I believe their intentions are not evil, but I am going to call the CC company as Ken suggested. I'm kind of at their mercy as I have some money tied up in it that I'd like to have access to.

New members must now submit this info upon registration. For those of us who have been members since before this law came to be, we are kind of stuck. I have made withdrawals before this legislation without incident.

When I first read the title of this thread, I thought this was going to be about ISO 9001. I'm glad I was wrong. That damn standard is in my head wherever I go now.

Ummm, to be on topic... Like the others said, don't give that much info. I would never give that info, and never have needed to previously. Not even to get a criminal check, get a job, or get a loan.
