Zellers in the United States?
I am having a debate with my wife about the pronounciation of the letter Z, as we all know Canada pronounces it 'Zed' and Americans say 'Zee'. To make a long story short, I recall an american Zellers commercial many many years back where they promoted Club 'Zee'. My wife says this could't be possible, since Zellers is and always has been a Canadian only store.
So my question is this: Has there ever been any Zellers outlet in the US, or does anyone remember seeing a similar Zellers commerical?

As far as I know there are no Zellers in the USA. As for the zee or zed. I'm Canadian and I say Zee.

I find the pronciation particularly weird in cars. I was talking with a guy I work with from the States and he was saying a Nissan 350Zee, and I've always called it a 350Zed. I've also heard him talk about a Camaro Zee28. That just sounds weird to me.

They definitely say Zee. I used to work at a call centre that dealt with american customers. Anytime I would say Zed they would ALWAYS correct me and tell me it's Zee.

Watching auto shows from the States, this always seems weird to me.

Zellers has never made any efforts to expand to the U.S. they wouldn't have stood a chance. There have never been any American Zellers commercials. You might be thinking of another dept. store in the U.S. or other brand with a Club-Z.

I haven't seen a Zellers while I've lived here for the last 7 years, and my husband has never heard of one either and he was born here...and do most Canadian's really say "Zed"? I remember when those Joe Canadian ads on tv came out a few years ago, and he says "It's Zed, not Zee, ZED!" and I was thinking to myself that the majority of Canadians I know also say Zee.

I do remember Zellers commercials for a 'Club-Z', but I only remember it ever having been pronounced 'zed' in those commercials.

Definitely most people I know say Zed. I only know one person who sometimes says zee, and he usually gets made fun of for it.
Honestly, most Canadians you know say zee? Weird. Maybe 'zed' is less prevalent in some parts of Canada.

I can't think of anyone I know who says "Zee" normally. Was there a strong American presence around where you grew up?

You know that will lead to a Pulp Fiction quote:
Quote:
Fabienne: Whose motorcycle is this?
Butch: It's a chopper, baby.
Fabienne: Whose chopper is this?
Butch: It's Zed's.
Fabienne: Who's Zed?
Butch: Zed's dead, baby. Zed's dead.

It's Z. not zed
I know it was a joke, but some canadians really don't like to pernounce things the "american" way; does anyone actually say zedzed top?
BTW even though Zellers is canadian, if they ever went down to the states, they wouldnt say club-zed. it would be club z down there.

K-Mart's Canadian division was purchased by HBC a few years ago. Many K-Mart stores were closed outright, with the remaining ones being converted to Zellers stores.

I doubt anyone calls them ZedZed Top, but that's a band name. The letter is zed, but the band is named "zeezee top." If I was spelling it, though, I'd probably say "zed-zed-tee-oh-pee."
And it's definitely not a conscious thing - an "I don't want to say it like the Americans" thing - just how I've always said it.
