Default 2 Firefighters killed in Winnipeg

http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servl...Story/National

As a firefighter in Calgary, this one hits close to home.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and members of the WFD.

I was a little scared this morning. I had the Winnipeg news on getting ready for work (because Calgary news doesn't start until 6:00) and the street name was very close to the name of my parents' street. Good thing I had the PVR on so I could rewind it.

Yes, God bless those who run into burning buildings to save those who cannot run out.

Not really sure what happened,I'm sure I'll find out more when I get back to work. The reports say it was 2 Captains killed in the blaze. That's surprising because in Calgary the Captain does not go in the fire(he runs incident command, basically is in charge of the call).Of course in Winnipeg they could do things differently.

They said 2 captains on CKY (CTV) news this morning. Something like both of them had 30+ years of service each.

It was the same in 1992 when Calgary lost it's last firefighter in the line of duty.Morely James was immensley popular(he died in a Forest Lawn hotel blaze).I never knew him but have heard many great stories about him.

I'm guessing the 'best' are often the bravest and most selfless?

I have nothing but absolute repect for all firefighters. Its truely sad to see some of the bravest lose their lives in the line of duty.

RIP to those 2 true heros.

Anyone who fights fires or patrols the city is an automatic hero.

Willing to put your life on the line for a complete stranger is the ultimate selfless act. My hat goes off to both of these fire fighters and my sincere condolences to their friends and family.
