Default Bon Cop, Bad Cop

I'm shocked I can't find a thread on this movie. Just watched it, and it's awesome. Really a must-see for any serious Canadian hockey fan. Does it make me a bad person if I sympathize with the killer?

I saw this movie way back in theatres. Can't remember it exactly 100%, but from what I remember I thought it was pretty good. Definatley worth watching.

Really? I saw this on the shelves the last time I was at Blockbuster, looked decent but always worry about renting movies that only have a couple copies on the shelves.

Well, isn't it a Canadian movie? That may account for the lack of copies.

I had heard this was a pretty good movie. I didn't manage to catch it though. I look forward to seeing it because I really like Colm Feore.

I have dozens of friends who have seen it and loved it. I didn't like it. It couldn't make up its mind whether it was an action movie, a comedy movie, a drama.... it went for very long stretches with no action and went long stretches between laughs too.

I did enjoy the jokes that only hockey fans would get and the french vs english jokes were hokey but funny, but all in all I wish I had rented rather then spent the money in the theatre.

But like I said, EVERYONE else that I have talked to just loved the movie so what do I know....

I don't understand modern society's obsession with categorizing things (not meant as a shot at you, DA, just something that jumped to mind). On tests in some English classes, you get graded on whether you can classify that book as "post-modern", "renaissance", "realistic wild animal story", etc. As far as I'm concerned, it's "good book", "bad book" or somewhere in between. Don't get me wrong, categories are useful...for things like deciding where to put/find a book/movie on the shelf, but when the worth of a work is judged on the basis of its genre, I just don't get it. (/rant)

As for how this movie might be classed...I would say it's a comedic action drama . It falls clearly into the conventions of detective fiction, if you really want something specific.

It was mainly the hockey references that caught my attention, I think. It would have been a good movie regardless...funny, with good action, but it's the hockey side of things that made it stick out for me.

I think there is a difference here. Ashley MacIsaac's first album is a mix of traditional Cape Breton celtic fiddle music and rock. iTunes wanted me to put it in one genre or another so I made "unclassifiable". It works. Love that album. *BUT* if I went to a concert where a band switched back and forth between traditional celtic songs like Mary Jane Lamond and AC/DC covers, I don't think that would work for me. And that's what I felt in "Bad Cop, Bon Cop"; it wasn't an action/comedy. It was action OR comedy alternating.

So I'm not saying that I didn't like the movie because I couldn't categorize it. I didn't like the movie because it wasn't homogeneous.

My opinion exactly.

Oh, ok. Good point. It still didn't bother me, but I see why it might not work for you.

I could swear I had posted about this but if not, I thought it was excellent - another example of how good Canadian movies can be if done right (never mind that it proves that all Canadian film doesn't have to be morose, dreary dramas) like Men With Brooms.

As far as classifying the type of movie, it was like a bilingual Lethal Weapon (action/comedy, buddy movie) - don't know how that improves anyone's enjoyment of the product but that would be my way of defining it anyways.

Definitely a show I'll be adding to my collection....

Loved this movie! A little vulgar, but hillarious nonetheless. I ended up having to explain some of the hockey references to some non-hockey watching friends, but even they enjoyed it.

And finally! Someone else who knows/likes Colm Feore. You have no idea how many blank stares I got when I would mention that he stars in the movie.
It's definitely a movie that I'd like to add to my collection.

There are many good Canadian movies out there (though I haven't seen Men With Brooms... maybe I should track that one down.) I usually like to see what's getting some buzz at various Canadian film festivals. Sometimes the titles are hard to find here, but if they're good enough, they do eventually make it onto Blockbuster shelves.

I definitely know what you mean. He's a very underrated, underappreciated actor. He's in quite a few movies, but people still rarely know who he is. It's too bad.

that was michael gross i think, the gun nut from tremors.

colm feore is in a zillion movies, mostly strange ones or canadian indie stuff.

he's had some minor roles in huge movies like 'the insider' then he'll pop up in a huge role in that wierd samuel l. jackson cave-dwelling pianist movie whose name escapes me, or titus with anthony hopkins.
