Good allround game for the whole team. It appears my lines went haywire somewhere along the line. New Wing Freddy Modin never seen any ice time. Look for him to make his debute in tomorrows game vs the Blues. Brad Winchester with a strong game from the fourth line getting his first two points of the season. With the win Detroit's record is now 1-2-0. But the Farm team gets pounded again as they look to break all kinds of records for goals against this season.

THRASHERS WIN A CLOSE GAME, IMPROVE RECORD TO 4-0-0

(Winnipeg - CP)

The Atlanta Thrashers won for the 4th straight game Friday Night in Winnipeg but the game was closer then some expected. The game came down to the final minutes and was won on a goal by winger Jay Pandolfo with 1:28 to go in the 3rd period. Pandolfo took a cross ice pass from Alexander Korolyuk and ripped a shot glove side by Jets goalie Brent Johnson.

The Jets thought they would get atleast a point out of this contest as Petr Cajanek scored a short handed goal with 2:49 to go but Pandolfo erased any chance of that with his winning goal.

The story of the night again had to be the Thrashers first line. The line of Walker-Forsberg-Sullivan had a monstrous game combining for 2 goals and 5 assists. Walker and Sullivan each had a goal for the Thrashers. They propelled the Thrashers back from a 2-0 deficit. Alexander Korolyuk scored the other Thrashers goal. Alexander Khavanov and Brett McLean scored the other Jets goals in the 2nd period to jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Thrashers are now 4-0-0 and have 4 days off before they play the Nordiques.

Shots:

Thrashers 28
Jets 25

Power Play's:

Thrashers 1 for 4
Jets 0 for 2

3 Stars:

1st - Scott Walker (Thrashers)
2nd - Steve Sullivan (Thrashers)
3rd - Alexander Korolyuk (Thrashers)

"Oh where, oh where" has the first line gone?

Record (1-2-0-0)

Game story -
Coach Dave Tippett was simple when he greeted the media after the game: "Your best players have to be your best players. If I have to call them out, I will. They play on the top line for a reason." Tippett was quick to praise veteran assistant captain Dallas Drake again. He has been the most consisent Canuck this young season.

Powerplay: 0 / 5
Penalty kill: 6 / 6
Winner of the Marshmallow (Unsung Hero) Award: Dallas Drake (scored his 3rd goal of the season, which was a shorthanded marker)

Up next: Edmonton Oilers

Huet continues to make a strong push for the #1 position in Colorado. Finally, a little offense from the Avs but they still get by thanks to a very defensive system.
The Avs improve to 2-1 under Maurice. Satan finally contributes with an assist.

Bolts Down Habs Led by the Great Rhetzky

Rhett Warrener showed the Flash and Dash of a young pup tonight tallying 2 goals against a talented Canadiens roster.

Captain Mark Recchi tallied 2 assists upping the Lightning record to 4-1.

Coach Hitchcock had these words in the post game news conference.
"The guys are really buying into the system and going to war for each other. They know that there is no nights off and we have been rewarded for that. Playing 5 games in 9 days to start the season was just what this team needed to get jump started. We look forward to a couple of days off now.
Game Stars
1 - Brendan Shanahan (MTL)
2 - Rhett Warrener (LIG)
3 - Mark Recchi (LIG)

Theodore shuts the door on the Bruins
Theodore deflects a Demitra shot wide during 3rd period action.

Jose Theodore continues his strong play on Friday Night making 35 saves total, 29 in the last 2 periods as the Penguins edged the Bruins 3-1 in a heated affair. Marian Hossa scored 2 goals and Saku Koivu added 2 assists in the win. The 2 assists give captain Koivu 7 points on the year to lead all Penguins skaters in that department. The game was a scrappy affair right from the opening whistle and came to a boiling point in the 3rd period when Garth Murray was ejected for a huge open ice hit on Boston veteran Ray Whitney. Whitney collected a pass coming out of his own zone; Murray met him at the Blueline and drilled him with a huge hit that the Referee classified as an elbow. " That was a clean hit in my books, stated Murray. He was coming down with his head down looking for the puck and I caught him perfectly. I am not the type of player who would try to hurt someone, I finish my hits hard and that is what I did on that play, it was nothing more then a hard clean check."

The Pens coming off 4 straight games now have 4 days to rest before they play the winless Sabres at home on Wednesday. The Pens then get ready to battle the Bruins for the 3rd time this season on Friday in what should be another entertaining game.

Brodeur registers first shut out

Martin stopped all 21 shots directed at him it seemed with ease. The acquisition of Regehr and the emergence of Jay Bouwmeester , seem to be paying off on the score sheet. As the Oil have only allowed 4 goals in the past 3 games putting Martin with an early 1.33 GAA.

On the offensive side of the puck Patrice Bergeron has taken off this season scoring his third of the season and adding a helper. The oil goal production is a little low, so expect Guy to shake things up by moving team superstar Jarome Iginla to be moved to the top line to play with Vinny.

Mr. Regehr leads the Oil in Points = 5, assists = 5, hits 11….. second on the team in shots with 13, and is riding a 3 game point streak.

In other news Karel Rachunek was injured in the second period while opening and closing the bench door. Rumor has it he will be able to play next game.

Goalie Statistics

Mathieu Garon (SHA), 27 saves out of 29 shots, L, 0-3-0
Martin Brodeur (OIL), 21 saves out of 21 shots, W, 2-1-0

Power Play Conversions
SHARKS 0 for 3
OILERS 1 for 8

Game Stars
1 - Martin Brodeur (OIL)
2 - Robyn Regehr (OIL)
3 - Patrice Bergeron (OIL)

Next Game: Wednesday night vs the 1 - 2 Canucks

A chance to avenge our first loss!!

Senators caught the Blues

2

1

The St. Louis Blues flew into Ottawa to face off the Senators in their 3rd game of the year. The Blues are now 3-0 as they defeated the Senators by a score of 2-1.

(Mason strong in net is now 2-0 with a 0.75 GAA and a .950 save %)

Chris Mason got the start in net, as it was a battle of the backup goaltenders, Jason Labarbera got the nod by the Sens. Mason was excellent when he needed to be, only facing 17 shots and putting aside 16. The Blues defense has been playing great as of late, only allowing more then 20 shots once in 3 games so far.

Sami Salo got the scoring started as he blasted a shot from the point past Labarbera to make 1-0 early in the 1st period. Shortly after, Brent Burns scored on a wrist shot from the left circle to give the Blues a 2-0 lead. Michell Ouellet got caught highsticking and was assessed a 5 minute major. This is where the Sens got busy and big Joe Thornton scored on a onetime pass from former Blue Eric Staal to cut the lead down to 2-1. That's all the Sens could muster up as the Blues clamped down and played their left wing trap system guided by head coach Pat Burns.

The Blues fly off to Detroit to face the Wings in the only PHL game of the night. Look for it to be televized all over Canada and USA on your local sports network. Look for Hasek to be in net again as he took a night off to rest his ageless body.

STARS DROP SECOND HALF OF HOME AND HOME

The Nashville Predators struck early and often, winning a 8-2 thumping of the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.

"This is the Predators team we expected on Wednesday night..." explained coach Marc Crawford. The Stars were 0/1 on the PP, and have yet to score on the man advantage this season.

Alex Tanguay and Milan Michalek who seemed to have found some chemistry accounted for one goal, while Darryl Sydor scored the other. The Stars were outshot 39-20 in the contest.

Game Stars

1 - Jean-Pierre Vigier (PRE)
2 - Jim Fahey (PRE)
3 - Chad Kilger (PRE)

Next up: A rematch with the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday.

Default Leafs go down in a Wild one.

Well not much to say about this game other than the goaltending was terrible. After playing on back to back nights Marty Turco was given a rest. Henrik Lundqvist started the game and let up 5 goals on 20 shots. Turco replaced him and didn't fare much better.

On the bright side, the Leafs did score 4 goals and didn't take too many penalties. A better effort in goal and this game is a lot closer.

So a good win, a bad loss, a good win, then a bad loss. Through 4 games this Leafs team has been very inconsistent, especially the defense/goaltending.

Ducks Cooked in Wild West Shootout

Los Angeles, Ca - The Los Angeles Kings were able to complete a two game sweep of the cross town rival Anaheim Ducks in a wild and exciting game which saw a total of 12 goals. The game was highlighted by the offensive performance by Brian Gionta who recorded his first hattrick of the year.

"It is always a good thing to help out the team and I was getting good feeds from Sykora, so I cant take all the credit. But it feels good to come out with a victory." said Gionta after the game. Also getting on the scoresheet was Sykora who added 4 assists. Coach Keenan, however, did not seem impressed during post game interviews.

"Well we couldn't stop them from scoring, at least we figured out a way to get a few more goals. Honestly, we have to tighten up defensively, the defensive performance was dreadful. No team thinking of the playoffs can survive with these kind of performances." said Coach Keenan with a scowl on his face. When asked about Phaneuf's ejection in the second period, Keenan added that it would be dealt with seperately.

Note: Next game vs. Sharks in San Jose. The game is to be played in a few days giving the team time to rest. In other notes rumors have surfaced that another solid dman is being sought after in Los Angeles at the expense of younger players.

Rangers 5 - Islanders 3

Rangers pull off the mini sweep.... but it was unexpected. Rangers Coach was forced to not dress Robert Lang due to a lower body injury. Which caused quite a large shuffle in the line up. This was not the only change, Rangers also started Noronen, MacT explained Roloson can not play every game. So it was great to see a win happen when two top players are not in the lineup...

Game Stars
1 - Jason Chimera (RAN)
2 - Dimitri Afanasenkov (RAN)
3 - Kevyn Adams (RAN)

Wild Offense Explodes

Someone finally told the Wild stars that the season had begun.

After slumbering their way through their first 2 games of the season, the Wild exploded for 8 goals against the Leafs on Friday night.

Joe Sakic, Tomas Kaberle, and Hank Zetterberg, both held pointless so fart his season, each led the way with 4 point nights, something noted by head coach Andy Murray.

"You need your best players to lead the way, particularly against a strong team like the Leafs. I thought the key tonight was that our dman really made an effort to be aggressive on the offensive end of the rink, this opened up things for our forwards down low".

The Wild play next Sunday aftrenoon against the Blues who shutout Minny 4-0 earlier this week. Hannu Toivonen may see his first action of the season in that contest.
