lawyers fees to buy a house...how much???
I'm wondering how much it cost on average to change the title on a home. If I remember correctly, the person who buys my house has to pay for the change in title.....right? I would just like to know how much to budget for. If anyone has any experience to share that would be great. Thanks

$700-1200 or so is what I've seen in the past, depending on the lawyer.

I paid $500 for mine one year ago but I would imagine they have gone up significantly since then.

When I bought some land 6 months ago I paid $350 plus tax, title ($100) and dispersment fees, for the lawyer to handle the purchase. Might be higher for a house?

Wow, am I thinking of selling houses? Or I'm just overpaying...

Don't forget, if you're selling your place you still have to pay fees for that too, not just on the purchase of the new place. Add it all in and I think it totals a ball park of $800 for both transactions.

Amazing that the guys who actually do the transaction to sell the house, who bring together the banks, mortgage, title, insurance, taxes and cut the cheques only make about $1000-$1500 collectively on both sides of the deal, while the realtors take home usually at least $15,000.

So what you are saying is that the realtor doesn't do any work to deserve his/her money? He doesn't take time to meet with his/her clients and show them house after house after house whilst working sometimes 7 days per week and 12+ hours per day?

I think my mortgage broker covered my lawyer's fees. I know I didn't pay anything, they waived something like $450 in fees.
