Golf clubs...
Looking to buy a new set of them. Any whole set you can recommend or place to buy them at?
I'm looking for a low to middling price range.
Thanks

I got a complete set (13 piece not including putter) of TopFlite XL 2000's from Sportmart for $149 earlier this summer. Nice clubs, graphite shafts on the 1, 3, & 5 woods & hybrid 2 iron; 3 to PW steel shaft irons. I certainly couldn't beat the price anywhere else. Believe they were a 2005 model.

How often do you play? What's your handicap? What's your ball flight like? What do you hope to do with your game? How much do you want to spend? Answering these will help define a set to target.

I have gotten the chance to play more this year. Once or twice a week. Previously only about 3 or 4 times a year. The added play time has improved my play and made me realize my current clubs are inadequet. In my opinion my swing is fair and on the move. (If I do say so myself)
250$-450$
Looked today. I think I might get an iron set and mix and match a driver and woods.

Go check out golf town and nevada bobs ask to hit a couple different types in your price range and see which you like best. I wouldn't suggest buying a full set, its better to get a set of irons you like then find a driver and fairway metal you like. They're more expensive but my Taylor Made OS2's are amazing. What I would suggest doing is finding the irons you like then try and find them on ebay, even with shipping and duty you'll save at least 40% on clubs.

Agreed with the Ebay route after you figure out what you want. Thats what I did.
With taxes, duty, exchange, and only 2 days shipping from the US, I saved 35% on my Taylor Made R7XD's over what Golftown/Nevada Bobs charges.
There's a few dealers on there that are hard to miss with 10000+ feedback ratings.

At this point of the year, wait until the golf season is over and the retailers will be clearing out the 2006 clubs.

the golf warehouse
I bought my wifes clubs at www.tgw.com they always have something good on sale. I would recomend buying from them anyday. The clubs I bought her were $250 less there than at golf town, including shipping and customs. They also send express takes about 2-3 days.
I prefer them to ebay, just because you never know when the product is going to arive. My only beef with twg.com was the bill i got in the mail for the GST from purolator, it was only $17 but I thought I had got away with free GST.

Okay, so sounds like you're looking for a game improvement set of clubs, something that is forgiving and a larger sweet spot. Here's some that I would recommend (all prices USD on e-bay).
Adams A2 OS ($400 New)
Callaway X-16 ($330 Used)
Cleveland Launcher LP ($250 New)
Taylormade RAC OS ($370 New)
Wilson Fatshaft IV Hybrid ($200 New)
Personally, I would go with the Clevelands or the Wilsons. The Clevelands are a good game improvement set of sticks and will give you a little more flexability to work the ball as you improve your game. If you're capable with all you irons, this is a good set. If you struggle to get the ball off the ground with the long irons, the Wilsons are the best selection because ot the hybrid factor.
I've played all brands out there (not just hit them, but have played them) and have owned several sets. If I were spending my own money, and it was my game I was looking to improve on a budget, I'd go with either of these two. I learned the game on Fatshafts and will say they are very under-rated clubs. Very solid, big sweet spot, low torque shafts, and the ball really jumps off them. The inclusion of two hybrids in the mix make them a tough set to beat at the price.
Go to Golftown and swing them both. Since golf is 90% mental, buy the set that appeals to you most.

Thanks all!
I went to a place called Golf Depot(in Brentwood) and Golf Town. The guy at Golf Depot seemed very knoledgable and sudgested, that for my level now and later, I go good quality. He found me an iron set of Cobra's (3100's) marked down by 200$ After testing that and lower quality sets the difference was very noticable.
I also got the impression that there was no commission.
After that I went to the giant, Golf Town. I found it quite overwhellming. It was busy with little sales staff to help. Found the Cobra's for 200 dollars more.
The thing I noticed about Golf Town was that they tell you a products marked down but not from what price.
I'm 85% sure that I want to get the Cobra's and then find a driver. (I have a couple of decent fairway woods)
Any driver recommendations in the 100-170$ range?
Thanks again, you've really helped.

Any customs fees or anything that you had to deal with?
Any links - as you say, there are quite a number of sellers but I'm never sure how the shipping to Canada experience will go.

It may be out of your way, but the Pro shop at McCall Lake is having a sale. When paying my last greens fee, I asked and the lady said the city wasn't going to renew the contract of the company that set up the pro-shop, so stuff was being cleared out.
May be a deal there, but I didn't have any prices to compare.

Is the sweet spot in the 3 and 4 iron way smaller? Also the 3 or 4 don't go much further than the five even if I do hit them good. I've got the rest of the clubs going good, just those two kill me, I've always seemed to have that problem in all sets.

The low irons are longer is the reason I've always heard. Drivers are probably the hardest to hit for me. (longest shafts) Shorter shafts are easier to control.
Your swing speed is probably why the lows are hitting the same distance as your higher ones. Probably need to speed your swing up.
At the store the sales person made sure my swing clocked high enough for regular stiffed shafts.
Maybe more flexibale ones would help you. The extra flex must speed the swing.
I dont think the sweet spots on low irons are any smaller.

LOFT.
Seriously, it is kind of because of that. The longer irons have less sole and a different swing weight, so players tend to swing a little harder with them. They are much more difficult to hit for most players. That is why the hybrid are so popular. More sole, a little more weight, and a more consistent swing weight to your other irons. I'd recommend trying out a hybrid (Hogans are really nice). That should help you out.

Proshopwarehouse on Ebay.
They ship UPS air express to Canada (as of next week, thats the only option to Canada). That rate includes the ever famous UPS brokerage fees. I ordered a Sunday night, they were at my door Wednesday afternoon. I had to pay GST to the UPS dude when they got to the door.
No Canada customs fees (or they were built into the UPS charge).
Prosopwarehouse also values them at their cost, not for what you win them for (at least they did for me), so you pay GSt on that amount, thus saving you some GST.
AND
fotze, you can't hit a 3 or 4 iron because you're just a word that rhymes with hussy.

I tried a few hybrids for the first time and didnt mind them but found the irons easier to get in the air for me. The big hybrid player seems to be Nickent. Cheapest hybrid they make, store price, is 100$.
I hadnt heard of them intill recently. About five years old. Do many tour players use them? (Curiousity)

I got a new set of clubs a couple of months ago and got the hybrid over a 3 iron since I always had trouble with my old 3 iron. The new hybrid is a SWEET club. I'll never go back.
I actually think I was in about the same situation as you. I'm getting out a lot more than I have in the past. The clubs I was using before I was using since I was 13 or 14. Now 22, I needed the upgrade, and it made a HUGE difference in the game. Like Lanny said, go with the clubs that feel the best for you, and you won't regret it.

Never batted an eye at the hybrids, until this season as I've always hit the long irons well, but hating my three wood I picked up a Hogan 2 strong and absolutely love it. It's effortless to hit and great out of moderate rough.

I bought an Adams Redline driver from Nevada Bob's about a month and a half ago marked down from $279 to $149 the one I bought has a Draw setting to it, and I absolutely love it, the fellow that helped me buy mine asked me how I hit the ball what problems I had with my ball flight, etc. etc. and then grabbed the one with the right shaft (I already wanted the draw setting) but basically he was the only guy in the store that was looking to help. If you want to goto that Nevada Bob's it was the one in the South West end ofthe city in Westhills and he was an older fellow, gray hair glasses, very helpfull. I'm very happy with my driver.
