Racism at Calgary Bars?
Not sure if this is a fata but why is possible racism at Calgary bars the top story on Global News at 6 pm? Yes, it's a concern but top story, give me a break.

This has been going on forever and most of the time for the right cause. I hate to say it but most **** disturbers at bars are coloured.
Lose/Lose situation because while you may reduce violence, you're also denying coloured people who are out for a genuine time.

Yep, really kind of a bad situation all around. I'm not the fighting type at all but the only time my friends and I've had trouble is with guys is with the hardcore asian types. This isn't to say their aren't guys of every colour that do this but this is my personal experience.

And what cause is that? The good old cause of racism?
I saw a bit of this last night on the news. Two black guys were getting denied at lame bars all over town for reasons like "it's over 25 night" or "your shirt isn't tucked in" then the camera would stick around and the meathead at the door would let some white guy in who was under 25, or his shirt was untucked.
Call me old fashioned, but I don't think a guy who's only job qualification is that he weighs 250 pounds should have that much (illegal) authority.
Anyhow, I hope this doesn't get out. Everyone already thinks we are a bunch of crackers. After seeing this, it's kind of hard to deny.

Do the bars not have a right to let in who they want at their bars? I watched the story, the bars came off really bad in that. The excuse the bouncers gave the guys were pretty stupid especially when they let an 18 year old girl into the place right in front of them.

Funny thing is, this latest report was a follow up to a similar report about a year ago..and absolutely nothing has changed. And yet some people are still trying to deny that its racial profiling...
I've never caused, or been in a fight at a bar, and this has happened to me on countless occassions...to the point where I'm pretty much used to it now. And I've been to bars in Vancouver, London, Las Vegas...huge cities. I've never seen anything like this there. Calgary still has some growing up to do.

I honestly didn't think it was that much of a problem, obviously it is worse than I thought.
I knew they would go out of their way to refuse large gangs of people who were asian, but 2 black people? Absurd.
Racial profiling is garbage.

We are in Canada, not South Africa circa 1985.

I guess they do...and in reaction, they will be branded racist..they should admit it's their policy. Put signs up that say "whites only" so minorities like me don't waste time waiting in line for nothing.

Is racism that prevelant in Calgary bars? I honestly wouldn't know .. I haven't gone in years.
On the news you only ever hear about coloured people causing problems (like that hit & run around New Year's) but of course that's what brings in the viewers. You know, tapping in to what people are afraid of and all.
Being part of the caucasian majority I've never experienced this ... if its this bad, why hasn't a minority business owner opened their own bar without these restrictions? Is it not a feasible business model?

why would anyone want to go to those crapholes anyway? Roadhouse, Tantra, Cowboys etc.....that's classic date-rape alley, full of meatheads and white gangsta wannabes acting like their straight out of Compton....those bouncers are doing you a favour by keeping you out.
Go to a place like Broken City or the Drum and Monkey, and nobody gives two sh*ts about who you are. Sure you might not get knifed by some loser from Edgemont, but that's a risk you're just going to have to take.

Fotze that was the best thread ever!
I was utterly shocked when I saw that story on Global. I had no idea. Call me an ignorant, white, suburb dwelling, urban sprawl creating, naive fool living in pleansantville if you must, but I did not realize racism was that rampant in Calgary.
