CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
At about 10:00 PM on Wednesday the 3 May 2006 police and EMS
received several calls regarding an incident on the City Hall
C-Train platform. Initial investigations indicate that two
brother’s ages, 49 and 40, were walking on the platform as an
eastbound C-Train was pulling into the platform at City Hall.
There was some jostling between the brothers and one fell
against the moving C-Train. This caused him to fall to the
platform but his upper body fell into the gap between the
first and second car of the three car train. He was then hit
and dragged for a short distance by the train but was crushed
between the train and the platform. EMS pronounced the
younger brother dead at the scene. There were numerous
people on the platform at the time but it was not over
crowded. The brothers had been at the hockey game and had
walked from the Saddledome to the train station.
Due to the unusual nature of this incident a joint
investigation is underway between the Traffic Section and the
1 District GIU detectives.
