Default Rollins hit streak

Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies doubled in his first at-bat tonight, giving him 38 straight games with a hit, dating back to last season.

That puts him into 8th all-time, and 18 back of DiMaggio's 56. This is the longest hit streak of in the past 19 years, since Paul Molitor had 39 games in 1987.

This is impressive, considering Rollins has never been an exceptional hitter. He's a career .273 hitter.

Also of note was that Tony Larussa directed his pitcher to give Rollins a nice meaty fastball on Monday night to give him a chance to extend the streak, rather than walk him. Class move.

He's getting close. 18 games is still a lot of work but it starts to look possible doesn't it?

That was interesting.

You can't come closer than that to having the streak end. Last at-bat of the game, 3-0 count...I can't imagine the pressure.

If it's not all in one season, it's not a record. Well it could be a record, but not on par with DiMaggio's. My 2 cents.

Doesn't matter anyways as he went 0-4 today and the hit streak is over.

I think it would have counted because for me 56 straight is 56 straight damn tough to do and impressive.

I am glad he didn;t get it though because although he seems nice I would prefer a great like Dimaggio to have a reacord like this. Rollins probably is lucky to be considered a top 5 SS in the NL let alone one of the top guys in the league.

He made a good attempt though and deserves all the credit for going as long as he did.
