Default "Could of ...."

I'm sure this subject will quickly fall off the first page and never be heard from again, but as I've got nothing better to do while I wait for some online tech support I thought I'd throw in my $0.02.

I do a fair bit of browsing through the hockey-related threads here, cringing every time I see "could of", or "would of" or "should of" so I googled it. Absolutely amazing the number of webpages I found devoted to that little bit of grammar.

Hopefully at least one of the offenders will see this, and rather than attacking me without mercy, will just replace "of" with "have".

And here I was going to come in here and say "it's 'could have'".

I guess that's a mute point now.

I find it so hard to read posts that don't have proper grammar and spelling.

Mine is far from perfect, but its a lot better than some. It just makes it so much easier to read when it is typed out properly.

I know that it isn't, but couldn't it kinda sorta be a double negative thing? The incorrect "ir" cancels out the correct "less", and just leaves you with "regard"?

Hate to sound school marmish, but it's actually "moot."

moot point A debatable question, an issue open to argument; also, an irrelevant question, a matter of no importance. For example, It's a moot point whether the chicken or the egg came first.

If you'll kindly look up, you'll see a joke travelling over your head.

As for forum faux pas, the one that is currently driving me nuts is the Oilers fan who thinks that if you put in a comma there is no need for a space between words.

For example:
Quote:
apparently the oilers had to toss in statsny to the deal becauuse the flames outbid the oilers for him,so I guess they tried, edmonton just was willing to overpay more than calgary, which could bite them inthe ass,but it also could benefit huge

There are a number of posts I read a few times before I figure out what they are saying. You aren't required to be perfect, but many people don't even seem to try to make sence.

Some posts just make me laugh; I just read on that ended, "...born and bread plugger" and I suddenly had a vision of Weimer going crazy with a loaf of bread.

Mystery commas are one thing, but what about the people that write a loooong post in one huge paragraph. THAT'S what makes baby jesus cry.

"Of" instead of "have" ****es me off to no end. Learn the language already!

If one thinks about it logically, one can come to the determination that the usage of "of" is an impossibility and that "have" is most definitely required.
