Default Upcoming Music Releases

It's been a long dry spell for me music wise. I haven't picked up anything new since "In Your Honor" came out from the Foo Fighters. I'm starting to get pumped though because 2 records that I've been anticipating for quite some time now are just around the corner.

The first is the yet to be named 6th Tool album. I'm a huge fan of Tool. Lateralus blew me away. I can't find a firm date, but they seem to be targetting March or April. They are about to start promotion tours in Europe so it's coming soon. Can't wait.

The other one is the latest offering from Queensryche. Operation: Mindcrime II will be out on April 4th! A lot of people haven't cared for the stuff Queensryche has been putting out for the last several years. I definitely prefer the early stuff, but I appreciate the new stuff as weel. OMCII might seem like a desperate attempt at first glance, but I have heard bootlegs of a couple of the songs played live and I can say that I was pretty impressed. Operation: Mindcrime is one of the greatest rock records ever made...I'm not expecting equality..that's just crazy, but this one should be great!

(anybody besides me an Lanny even LIKE Queensryche??)

Thanks for the heads-up Dis -- I'm a huge Tool fan (as big a fan as you can get for a bad that releases 2 albums per decade) but didn't realise a new album was this close.

You just made my day DFF! I've been waiting for this album forever! Guess I shoulda checked their site or done some digging.

Lateralus was simply amazing. My favorite album.

Isn't it their fifth album? Opiate, Undertow, Aenima, Lateralus, 'New Album'.

The Lawrence Arms - Oh! Calcutta!

Sounds nothing like their previous stuff. Pretty fantastic.

A bunch of good bands have stuff in the works. Tool, A Perfect Circle, Audioslave, and Red Hot Chili Peppers are my favourite bets right now.

Unless Metallica did something drastically different I don't think I'm going to even touch their new CD with a ten foot pole. I heard some of Live's new stuff at the Nickleback concert, and to be honest it sounds like a lot of tone-downed, for the teeny-boppers type of music. Which is kind of sad since Live did have a nice little thing going on there.

If you're a fan of Jane's Addiction I remember hearing about them releasing a greatest hits, which isn't exactly new music, but hey new album non the less.

Personally I'm excited for the Audioslave and RHCP releases since that gives me a remote chance of seeing them in concert, with the remote chance that they stop in Calgary...it's all very remote.

The new GnR album was suppost to come out in March but they yet again pushed it back till the Summer..I've actually got to hear 3 tracks off it..and does it sound strange hearing Axel sing new stuff!

The new GnR album is going to be a complex, convoluted mess of songs that should probably never be released. Here's hoping the CD doesn't damage the integrity of the band itself; let the band exist in the history or rock and roll, and not as subpar sales on HMV racks.

My most anticipated album is the Red Hot Chili Peppers due out later this year. Their music has aged so well over the last 10 years, this next compilation is going to leave my head spinning and I can't wait.

Have you had the chance to hear any of the tracks yet from Democracy?

I actually saw the new G'n'R tour just a couple of shows before the tour was stopped. It actually wasn't too bad at all. Though the new band while perhaps technically better just didn't have the personality or chemistry as Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum and Izzy. The new stuff that may or may not appear on Chinese Democracy (which may or may not be released at this point) was not much of a departure from the Use Your Illusion albums. I know during that tour people were saying Axl's voice was gone etc etc...i didn't think so. It wasn't much different than when i saw them twice before (with brian may opening and the G'n'R/metallica tour)...his voice has matured since the Appetite days.

Axl may be many things but the one thing everybody associated with him thinks (including Slash, Duff etc) is that he's a brilliant songwriter. It'll be interesting to see if it ever gets released and if it does, whether or not it's brilliant or a complete disaster. Axl is making his way back into the public eye a bit more of late and is himself saying the album will be out this year.

It's their first album with Rob Trujillo and it sounds like they may have a new producer or they may just produce it themselves so expect it to sound different.

I wouldnt worry about it sounding raw like St. Anger either. St. Anger was more of a statement of starting over new than it was of them thinking they were making another Master of Puppets and ****ing up. Some people hated it, some people liked it, and I've talked to alot of people who hated it at first but eventually it grew on them.

Though there were parts of it I didnt like because of the rawness the thing I really liked about St. Anger was the aggression that was missing from the Loads and even parts of the black album. St. Anger(the song) might not be the best song lyrically but one thing you have to admit is the aggression in it is vintage Metallica. Had they not gone the raw production route I really think alot of people wouldnt slag St. Anger like they do and would think it's a step forward unless of course they turned on them after the Napster case and think everything they do no matter what sucks.
