And thus ends the trade speculation.

Straight swap McTavish for McDavid! The namebar savings alone make this an E5!!

Trade speculation, like the Spanish Inquisition, never ends!

I'm surprised no one offered him more via an offer sheet.

Compensation brackets:
$7.02M - $9.36M
1st, 2nd, 3rd
$4.68M - $7.02M
1st, 3rd

He wanted to be in ANA.
The hang up was ducks offering 2-3 years on a bridge deal, and McTavish wanting 6-8.
Looks like they gave him what he wanted.

Ducks could be sneakily good this year.

This was the contract the Ducks didn’t want to sign? Am I missing something? This seems pretty team friendly

They were the most improved year over year last year.

To be fair though, the year before last they were a disaster

The downside for the Ducks is they bought only 1 UFA year. McTavish gets a lot of control in the next round of negotiations.

edit: sorry it bought 2 years of UFA.

Maybe it was the contract they didn't mind signing if it was long term.

Really wanted us to make the Ducks sweat with an OS, but I do understand the reluctancy of doing so with our team being such a huge question mark on where we will fall in the standings. Can’t deal an unprotected pick.

Doesn't mean an OS wasn't given... It has to be signed by a player for it to be announced... Sometimes I think people think OS are like playing red rover and you just have to yell out their name.

Sure, but one can easily assume (or speculate, because we don't know), that we did not give an offer sheet when I think we can all agree an OS being 9.3m for 5 years for McTavish to be swayed for a different team.

Who has that cap space that doesn't also have a realistic chance of ending up in a lottery position. Just Carolina really

I think only 9 or 10 teams hold all their picks to make an offer so it's not all that surprising, I would imagine there was a lot of trade talks though.

You're right of course. Teams that could've made that offer sheet and didn't finish in the bottom 10 last year:
CGY, DET, LAK, MTL, NJD UTA.

If we consder available cap space that leaves:
CGY, and DET.

Would need to make a trade after the fact
MTL & NJD ~$5M of cap space
UTA $7.8M

I thought the number would be low, but I never actually looked into it. I was surprised that it only came down to 2 teams. Which really puts offersheets into perspective for me.

There's really no point in thinking about giving an offer sheet when Anaheim has so much cap space. Even with this contract, they have the second-lowest payroll in the league right now. They would have matched any reasonable offer, and probably most unreasonable ones.
