To be clear those appear to be Friedman's best guesses.

Good, he’s reliable and well regarded by the rest of the team. I also enjoy the outrage.

I'm okay with him staying for 2-3 years. He did very well playing with Weegar. We still probably need to deal a coule of depth D to make space on the 3rd pairing.

Miromanov should not be in the lineup
The better be dumping Andersson before the season if Notjoe is staying. Otherwise there’s a log jam
Weegar
Andersson
Bahl
Notjoe
Pachal
Bean
Pachal
Plus a few others like
Solovyov
Kuznetsov

Only if Bean is traded, otherwise I want to see Solo or Kuzi as 3rd paring.

He was fine and even exceeded expectations, but he isn't someone you want blocking a prospect at this point. If he is a number 7 or 8 that doesn't dress every game, then fine. You don't want prospects eating popcorn, but I hope the plan isn't to have him as a regular.

I really don't mind as long as you give the young guys every chance you can to surpass him, of course if someone doesn't they're not quite ready. But having him with the intent of making him your 6/7 doesn't hurt. I also wouldn't mind seeing Bean moved, he felt like he did a lot of nothing last year whereas Hanley actually defended well as advertised.
I imagine the only reason they'd keep Hanley in the first place is Andersson, maybe Andersson and someone else is expected to be leaving in the near/immediate future.

He was a pretty good #4 for the Flames last year. If Andersson is traded and you don't sign Hanley/UFA LD then you have to put in Parekh + another prospect/Bean in your top 4. It might be setting a guy like Kuznetsov for failure. IMO Hanley wouldn't be the guy blocking a prospect, that would be Miromanov, Bean, and Pachal. If a prospect has a good camp one of them will be moved to make a spot.
Also as shown last year Hanley was the ultimate pro. He started the year as the #7/8 D. He kept working. Once he got in the lineup he excelled. Hanley - Weegar was one of the top pairings in the league with 57%xG. That's the same as Harley - Heiskanen, and even slightly better than Towes - Makar.
I really have a hard time seeing a downside in signing Hanley to a 2-3 year contract.

Out of thanks, but well put, g! This would be a good signing, the coaches really like him.

Playing really well last season. If Anderson is gone it’s good to have insurance in case a youngster can’t handle the load.
Weeks ago read article that he would try and cash in on his good year. Free agency hasn’t even started and he probably already knows that the “cash in” isn’t available for him.

I see a lot of depth charts with prospects on the roster but rarely see Hunter Brzustewicz. Why not? He had a good learning season in the NHL and would love to see him up with Parekh.

It's fine if there's not an upgrade available at the LD spot in the FA market. Flames need a legit top 4 LD. Orlov would be my guess. If that fails then throw the kids into the deep end and sign Hanley to cover up.

I like it, if they keep Hanley it tells me Conroy isn't going after a big name player in UFA. Could also mean he is walking away from Byram type trades too.
Top teams are loading up, Flames won't be and Hanley with Weegar allows Bahl with Parekh when Anderson is traded.
They could still go with Kuznetsov and Pachal as the 3rd pairing.
if another prospect pushes to make the team, go with 8 d and Pachal can sit.
You could also give Kuznetsov, Pachal and who ever else makes the team around 50 games each.

No way they have two rookies paired together. Especially with one of them playing their off side

Most posters myself included consider Weegar better on the right side. The next spot most have Parekh penciled in. That currently leaves Pachal's spot. Pachal is likely #5 on the rotation, and another fan favorite.
I'm absolutely cheering for him to take that spot on the 3rd pairing, but it would likely involve trading Pachal.

I would still rather open the spots up for our prospects.
Bahl-Weegar
Solovyov-Pachal
Kuznetsov-Parekh
X: Bean, Miromanov
Run 8 D, plug in Bean and Miromanov into the rookie spots when you need to give them a break (especially in the first half of the season as they are learning).
